The Green Book is great, why the hate?
@gameboynextdoor57442 жыл бұрын
Mainly because of who it won over I have not seen any of these movies, except for black panther and bohemian rhapsody, but here’s why there’s so much hate: Green book was mainly a road trip movie that discussed on topics of racism The problem was, green book was the safest option to go with, they could gone the experimental route instead For example, they could have given the award to black panther and make it the first ever superhero movie to win best picture They could have given it to the favorite, and made it the first LGBTQ+ movie to win best picture Roma could have been the first ever foreign language film to win best picture In fact, Blackkklansman also touched on topics of racism, and from what I’ve heard it’s done an arguably better job of doing it Like I said, I’ve only seen two of these movies so there’s a chance I’m completely wrong about this, but this is just what I’ve heard I’m personally sad that bohemian rhapsody didn’t win, but from what I’ve seen there’s been a lot of people saying Roma should have won It may have been good, but a lot of people seem to think that the other options were better

@@gameboynextdoor5744 Green book wasn't just about racism and the movie portrayed that subject in a deeply personal way than Blackkklansman. It was the friendship between two unlikely men and how it affects and changes both of them. I, personally, felt that blackkklansman was a bit too in on the racism thing (though given the story I wouldn't complain too much but still), focusing more on just 'racism bad'. I am not saying that it's a bad movie, I just lean more towards green book as it's not the racism subject that is given center stage but rather the unlikely companionship and it's effects. And why different ? Just because something is different doesn't mean they should have gone that way, especially not simply because of it being different. I also believe Roma should have won but not simply because it was a foreign film but rather because I felt it was more deserving. PS. Wasn't Doc also portrayed as lgbtq+ ?

GREENBOOK ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Although it sometimes felt a little too simple in a straightforward way, I still love this movie. At the same time that’s also where it’s power is. It has stirred up some controversy but I think that’s a good thing because the message is strong. I think this film was not made to make a white audience feel bad about themselves, showing the absurdity and humiliation of the racist customs in the Deep South of the sixties (although it is both absurd and humiliating), or to make a white audience feel good about themselves that a racist white guy befriends a black guy after overcoming some obstacles. That would not honour what this movie is about. The movie shows two people from completely different worlds overcoming their flaws and prejudices and becoming very good friends. It’s also about common sense, doing what’s right and the value of friendship. The criticism that the movie received about “telling the story only through the perspective of a white italian/american caricature” is flawed. The movie clearly puts the development of the relationship between both characters in the center. The choice to begin the story with the white character and his world, makes the movie even stronger. Because now we feel what the black character (entering the stage in about a quarter of the film) has to deal and to put up with. Plus it adds to the mystery and alienation of his character. When we also learn that he doesn’t even fit in his ‘own community’ it is clear to see why the movie did’nt start with him. From reading Lawrence Ware’s (NYT) review I understood that not adressing further the pianist’s sexual incident at the YMCA was a miss. But after hearing another viewpoint from a close friend about it I tend to disagree with Ware. “Sexual orientation is a very private matter” (as she explained to me) “and it should not matter in a friend or work relationship. The film should be about what both men are. Not that one of them has a (for that time) devient orientation. ‘Devient’ sexual orientation is from all times by the way.” With both characters and their innately awkward relationship at the center of the movie there is a lot to explore and root for. Would it be interesting to start with the pianist and his world? It would take away some of the mystery of his character, yet at the same time give a close and indepth look on the complexity of his situation. Not that we don’t feel this in the current movie. Eventually it comes in strong thanks to a gradual reveal and the inevitable clash between the two. People who say that this film is made to make white people feel good about themselves have completely missed the point. I would even say that in a time where divicive and polarising retoric is used to seperate us even more from one another this film is a very welcome breath of fresh air. P.S. I haven’t seen all the other movies yet, I thought Black Panther was better then Greenbook and I’m curious to see the others. But I’m happy for the recognition that the Greenbook team received. It’s an important movie. It is time more then ever, that we unite and come together.

1) The Favourite 2) Roma 3) BlacKkKlansman 4) A Star Is Born 5) Black Panther 6) Bohemian Rhapsody 7) Green Book 8) Vice All I can really say is, what happened between last year's ceremony and this? "The Shape of Water", "Get Out", "Lady Bird", "Phantom Thread", "Three Billboards" - all strong films from a better than average best picture field. More crucially, they were films that not only impressed in a technical sense, but also brought something unique and engaging in terms of narrative and emotional scope. You compare that to the 8 movies listed above, and its rather puzzling to see that kind of downward slope. I say that as among the nominees there was 1 film I loved (The Favourite), 4 that I liked (Roma - Black Panther), and 3 that simply baffled made the cut, to be frank. If this is indicative of the oscar's future, than that's truly disappointing.

@heisen-bones3 жыл бұрын
@Claude, The Finest From Deluge it actually is. Green Book is the most cookie-cutter generic oscar bait film about "racism" to win Best Picture since Crash. Yes, the movie is heartwarming and funny but Best Picture worthy? Granted it was a weak list of nominees, but when it was up against Roma, The Favourite and Blackkklansman, GB was the weakest one to win. Again, not saying it's garbage, but if the Academy really wanted to propagate a message about racism across, they should've voted Blackkklansman. The ending of Green Book is cute, but not perfect. Since it implies that racism is officially over. But if you watched the very ending of Blackkklansman and if you've been paying attention to the events of 2020, you'd realize it's far from the truth. That is why I think it should not have won Best Picture.
