Having the choreography set firmly in their mind is mind-boggling, and responding to the calls correctly...Whew! Outstanding!!
@kingsavageson4879 Жыл бұрын
I think the calls are just part of the routine, especially after they know the choreography & whats coming next

U can take the child out of art of music, but u will never take the heart of dance out of the art of music. I miss my roots! 💕🕊💕

I smiled through the whole video! Thanks for posting. I wish we still danced socially like this with appropriate contact and not all sexualized! Dancing like this is inter-generational and appropriate for all ages! I wish people still recognized that there is a time and a place for everything!

Actually I was just thinking how sexy the women are. When these dances took place out in the sticks, you can bet your life the population went up significantly that year. Sorry, that's life.

You definitely got that right Marc. I used to love square dancing and that kind of thing.

We still have dancing like this in Berea, KY 🙂 well, pre-pandemic, anyhow. Look up Contra dancing groups in your area.

Every city in the US has contra dancing and square dancing. If you're not doing it that's on you. If people want to dance other ways it's called freedom. Don't use clogging to diminish other dance styles.

The roots of Welsh clog dancing are clear to see, but why is it that whenever any kind of dance crossed the Atlantic it became much more joyous and with a bigger following? Same thing happened with English country dance and contra and square dance!
@joekhatib3798 Жыл бұрын
320 plus million people in US is one reason plus these communities in Appalachia were remote and cut off from much of the rest of the Country for 150 plus years because of lack of roads and resources!!! Many of these areas were opened up after World War II due to the improved transportation and communications especially TV! These people also fiercely hold on to their traditions and culture!!!

THAT dancing is Lancashire (engliish ) when we arrived in the colonies from 15 century clog dancing, were you step forward,into the clog all the time your dancing, as they had no back straps to keep your feet in, that's why it's got that unusual dance Gate and stepping action ?..on the tips they had metal plates and hobnails in the sole to help last longer , in Lancashire England Street were alll Flint cobbles, and when a young couple went it in the evening walking there would be lots of sparks on flint stone , hence they were (..Sparking and courting ) English Mik.
@lizardas4 жыл бұрын
That's fascinating information. Thank you for that bit of history.
@551taylor4 жыл бұрын
The Yorkshire pit (coal mine) clogs had wooden soles and leather uppers, but they had to have non-sparking hob nails due to the fire and explosion risk. The wooden soles were to protect the feet from uneven and sharp rocks, and the open backs allowed you to slide your foot out if it got trapped. They were still in occasional use until the mines were closed in the late 20th century, and are still used in traditional clog dancing.
@michaelpalmer9374 жыл бұрын
John Taylor Yes that's if you were working with coal dust , or were there was a risk of a violent explosion, not as a fisher woman , or shop worker , or as a farmer worker, there we're many other trades other than miners and cotton workers...so they also needed a robust working clog, with metal hob nails and clips around the shoes to afford them protection and make the clog wear much longer ? English Mik.

1. Excellent American (Folk) Dance music. 2. Excellent Dancers. 3. I think the best thing, the dancers dance in MODERNISED XIXth Centurian dress. Greeting from Hungary from a Hungarian Dance Music fan. Your (mainly) Appalachian Dance Music tradition is good. You only should use (modernised) XIXth dress as these dancers did.
