Didn't Marvel at one point explain the absence of aliens on Earth (when they are so very abundant in universe) by saying most others fear this place, as it has produced so many deity-punchers and reality ending threats while still being relatively fresh out of the stone age? Some of them even normal humans who are normally extraorinarily squishy compared to other races... The alluded to attitude was 'there must be something REALLY OFF about thst place...' and 'YOU gonna help THOSE get offworld??' It was also kinda hinted at in MCU Infinity War, how it's strange that so many of the gems ended up on earth.

@@samjacleg oh rly? Was just a tangent related to 'gee, there sure are a lot of humans in this comic published here...' But yeah, DC needs to adress their lack of interspecies representation! And get non human writers. Can't have all these homo sapiens writing from a perspective they have no reference for! I mean, what, are they not concerned about their anthropocentric market??

@@user-zh4vo1kw1z actually, dc kinda address this long ago after the Blackest Night-Brightest Day event. The reason that there are really few extraterestial made contact to earth before the Green Lartern because Earth is a no fly zone. It is where the Entity of White Light (represent life in the emotional spectrum) reside. To kept it "safe" the Guardian kinda forbid the Corp interaction with the Sol systems. Couple with they are the reason that there are 2 type of Marsian, the Guardian wanted to hide Sol system under the rug. Which come crashing down with Superman and then other Superbeing began to appear and reach out to the universe.

In Kyle Rayner: Green Lantern it's mentioned that Humans have an unnaturally high will power compared to other species of aliens. This is why Ganthet went immediately to Earth and picked out a random human instead of searching the universe to give the "last lantern ring" to when Hal Jordan was turning into Parallax

A 'sojourn' also means 'a temporary stay' as in travel. Maybe Jo's name has a double meaning. The obvious nod to Sojourner Truth, and her temporary stay in the Far Sector from Earth.... or her temporary stay on Earth to the depths of space, never to return.

I think the reason why this comic has received little attention is we getting another human GL as both Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz still feel like new additions (both of these characters aren't a decade old). Maybe DC should have done something different by making Jo Mullein a Red, Blue or Yellow lantern as it will keep the GL mythos fresh and make Jo even more original.

Kind of mixed, here. My first thought was "oh goody, somebody re-invented Mosaic". Fortunately, I was at least smart enough to shaddup and hear the REST of the story. The world & culture building was great! Gave the concept depth beyond the standard stranger in a strange land meets generic alien, and conflict ensues. Readers have to navigate the rich details along with the protagonist. Noir mystery indeed. The Protagonist: we've all heard of the "Strong Black Woman", usually only perceived as such because of how well she handles being downtrodden. Seen it a million times. Not so here. Here, she's thoughtful and smart. Without being nerdy. We've seen that before, too. With this much attention to detail, and story concept that says, "stick around, this is going places", I want N.K Jemisin to write Batwoman next! (But that's a whole other rant) HAVING SAID THAT: despite the greatest GL costume design since Kyle Rayner, we don't need another Green Lantern from Earth! Either make her something else (could still interact with a GL from this sector), or make her a Lantern from another planet. If anyone could, it'd be Jemisin. Perspective, indeed. HAVING SAID THAT, THAT: Sasha, thanks for putting us onto things we would've missed otherwise. A new dimension in your ever growing stable of subjects. Here's one for you: You've all been sleeping on FLASHPOINT! Not the time travel rebooty one, but the 3 issue story before it. Silver Age Barry Allen tries to stop the Kennedy assassination with disastrous results that ends us changing the world, with help from an unexpected source. Loved your "we have the Earth at home", comment. Found on actual child's tee shirt: SAVE THE EARTH! It's where we keep the Bubble Gum!!!

Had to stop the video about a minute in because of the opening quote. We had to read Things Fall Apart in high school, and while the book itself is well-written, I have since held a deep and personal hatred of the (very much fictional, I know,) main charachter and his personality, so seeing a comic open with quoting that particular book (even if it has nothing to do with that charachter,) brought that nostalgic rage feeling back, and I had to sit back for a moment. This Green Lantern series has convinced me to read N.K. Jemisin's science fiction and fantasy, despite the doorstopper size - my time is too precious for lengthy bad SFF (a trashy three-hour read on the weekend is fun). The City Enduring brings back the alien feeling of the Green Lantern universe without the burden of known human Lanterns or the almost too distantly alien behavior of the Guardians (they're still condescending).

I haven't read a whole lot of Green Lantern, but I love the idea of a noir style adventure where a Lantern actually works a crime scene. I'd actually love to see a story where we just see a day in the life of a Lantern just doing routine space cop stuff, like issuing speeding tickets. "Ma'am, are you aware that you were travelling at 14 Lightyears in a 12 lightyear zone?" Also, I'd love to see a video covering all of the Earth Green Lanterns and just how come Earth has so many when, as far as I'm aware, there's only supposed to be one GL per sector.

I haven't read current run comics for a log time, but started this one because of the author. Really enjoying it so far :)

I have been reading this for awhile since I discovered it when seeing what new comics were coming out one week. I love it. I can wait for people to see her backstory and the Guardian of the Universe they meet.

I thought Far Sector was a very solid sci-fi story, but like a lot of stuff DC seems to be putting out lately, it really felt shoehorned into Green Lantern-hood. Leaving aside the issue of her being the Nth Green Lantern from Earth (how many are there, 8? 9?), she seemed a very un-Green Lantern Green Lantern. Yes, there's immense variety among Lanterns (e.g., G'nort vs. Mogo) but there's an underlying vibe to this story that feels different from most if not all other Green Lantern stories. Of course you can tell that story, but it's like picking up a Batman title and finding a fluffy rom-com story inside. If "Green Lantern" can be anything that includes the deus ex machina of a power ring, then "Green Lantern" doesn't really mean anything anymore.

Just finished the whole story. Genuine Good story she feels like a real person, no trying too hard to broadcast a message. If folks don’t like even this then what is there left to say

It's the same artist who worked with Bendis on Naomi, a six issue mini about another awesome new character that I'd highly recommend checking out, even if you only care about the art.

Looks good. But I'd like to see a Green Lantern with a mental issue that manifests through the ring. Also, not enough alien Lanterns manifesting alien things with their rings.
