I hope you do a video on Phantom Stranger and his different origin stories as I find this character to be quite fascinating. I remember reading the Legends event a few years ago but I found it to be very unremarkable.

The return of Billy Batson was great but for some reasons the whole Legends event never stuck out in my head, tbh I haven't read many of the tie-ins

Today I learned, the DCEU Suicide Squad being created with a bunch of mostly-normies to give cover to Deadshot to take a shot needed to put down a godlike being, during a time when Darkseid is trying to weaken Earth for an invasion..... is not far off their comics' canon first mission. I'm not sure my soul can accept this...

I would just like to point out that this episode clearly showcases an increase in the makeup and wardrobe budget for Casually Comics, and I'm here for it. As a side note I feel the sound and special effects are top notch, and their budgets should remain unchanged moving forward, as evidenced by speaking into a coffee can to get the definitive Deadshot voice.

Deadshot is such an interesting character. WB hasn’t unlocked his full potential.

The 'swimming though library' gesture first made me think of going through the coats in the closet on the way to Narnia. Which is about as much as a stretch as trying to wade through all of the Legends tie ins. Especially on a high schooler's budget.

I love Ostrander, but somehow I never got into Suicide Squad despite it being the book that introduced Oracle, my favorite hero (with recognition to Barbara Yates (RIP) for her involvement in creating Oracle). The Ostrander/Mandrake run of The Spectre is still one of my favorite books, even though it's a often darker than my usual fare.

Enormous sadness at the missed opportunity for some Sasha-Batman voice work.

I actaully really like legends. I think it is better than stories like convergence and infinite crisis and heroes in crisis and identity crisis. I also miss the days when amanda waller was morally ambigus rather than evil.

I really like this era of DC this Bronze age as I think it was called. So far whenever I see pages or review I like the art and I like the stories, they are on a nicely scaled level of human and harsh to fun and wonderful. Poor Batman being bombed by perfume.

Okay this is taking me for a RIDE having seen Young Justice but not known anything about G.Gordon Godfrey or Darkseid's whole "Destroy their faith in thier heroes" gambit. I mean, they're going for a different thing in YJ, but I am still rocked by this info.

I remember one of the Legends tie-ins was Secret Origins: Phantom Stranger. It had n-o-t-h-i-n-g to do with the Legends storyline. However, I loved the 4 stories in it, so I didn't mind.

I can't take a group called Suicide Squad seriously after Monty Python's Life of Brian.

I really enjoyed this video. I've never read the Legends storyline. But I can see where parts of it have been used in other various DC media.

Honestly, the plot that was used in legends was later used in Smallville and in some other comic story I can't remember, but would have been a better way to start the DCEU (though it was sort of stolen by the MCU). Have various Darkseid agents come to Earth to look for the Anti-Life Equation for Darkseid, all being stopped my various heroes in their own movie. Intergang, the mob Kanto sold weapons to pop up in Gotham while Batman fights his own villains. The Female Furies and Granny Goodness show up in Wonder Woman corrupting children, while Wonder Woman is occupied with one of her regular opponents. Aquaman come across Mantis and Deep Six. Superman fights Kalibac. All while Glorious Godfrey is undermining the heroes (just as Snyder did). Then Steppenwolf can show up in the first Justice League and Darkseid in the second. It creates a through line for all the various heroes and a reason for them to come together. Ah, but then it would be a lot more like the MCU than it needed to be.

Love Suicide Squad. Seems like it's one of the titles they didn't screw with much. Not that they needed to. There are only three to four returning champions each time they are sent out, and red shirts that are recruited are guaranteed to go out with a bang (**snicker**). Personally, I like the larger Amanda Waler. She is intimidating, confident, knows all your business, and could probably slam all of the squad at the same time while drinking her Earl Grey (and they all know it). CCH Pounder gives the perfect voice for the character as well. She could probably play the role in real life too.

Not going to lie, I only went to check the Suicide Squad's comic after I saw the movie, and only because my undying love for everything Harley Quinn compelled me to. And at first I was a little disappointed when I realized she wasn't a member of the original team, but I still kept reading because I liked the little train wreck they had going on. It is a fun comic, and there's never a dull moment, at least from my point of view. And since we are here... Whatever happened to the crush James Gordon Jr. had on Waller? I was looking forward to see how that was going to play out, even though that post New 52 Waller was definitely not my Waller.

that'a the year i started reading and collecting DC comics was in 1986 34 years ago till 1992 and John Ostrander task force x / suicide squad was the best . i have all the issues of the legends series and the crossovers. back then in my city we had no official comic book store just seven eleven and grocery store to buy comics from the racks. or buy them older issues of comics from a used book store, not till 1988 was a comic book store in my city.

I really enjoyed that run on Suicide Squad; though, the Secret Six makes more sense as a deniable espionage force. Legends messed up the flow of the Paris Cullins/Len Wein "Blue Beetle" run; which was a real shame.

Agreed, Legends is underrated. You've got Darkseid, Phantom Stranger, John Byrne, the premiere's of JLI and Suicide Squad, what's not to like?

When a mini series event needs other issues to explain whats going on like Legends did it kinda fails at storytelling. The last big event that had this problem to me was Secret Invasion where if you didn't read the crossovers or had not been reading the Avengers book before hand the event made no sense.

Goodness me, I had totally forgotten Legends. Unlike Genesis, which deserves to be forgotten because it was awful and yet I can't forget it because of that, Legends was good. So it should be better remembered. What a great Deadshot voice. I think the best deadshot was Michael Rosenbaum in the justice league cartoon, although Christian Slater was pretty good. But the formers laid back 'meh!' tones were so compelling. But this version is the one I will hear for his dialogue - when in helmet - from now on. I got so used to the new 52 Amanda waller that it was rather jarring when she got her old look back for rebirth. I do have a copy of that Cosmic Boy mini series. You can borrow it if you want, but you might have to wait a long time for me to remember where I put it....
