Green Meadows Elementary School (Hampden, MA) recieved a grant for 2,500$ to host local Muralist: John Matlock.
The mural project was made possible by The Mass Cultural Council.
John was at our school for a week, mapping out and painting a large scale mural in our school's cafeteria.
The mural illustrates the lifecycle and journey of the Monarch Butterfly across the North American Continent and three countries.
Our students had the opportunies to visit as a homeroom class to observe and ask John questions.
The grant required components of art, science and narrative. So this accurate illustration showcases the beautiful life cycle that much reflects our own lifecyle.
This mural uplifted our space, transforming a long white wall into an inviting child friendly, educational space.
The mural is interactive, much like a Kelsey Montague if a student were to stand or kneel infront of the large Monarch it would appear the student has a pair of wings in a photo. #WhatLiftsYou #KelseyMontagueArt
The mural was unveiled to the public during a ribbon cutting ceremony paired with a student art show, showcasing 1 piece of art per student.
