I’ve read his books. They are awesome. My grandfather made it through 72 missions before being shot down and killed in Laos :/ he and his copilot were never recovered.

Great interview! My Dad flew F-4's with the 8th in Vietnam during the same time period Ed was there. I wonder if they knew each other. Sadly, my Dad passed away before I could get him to tell me his Vietnam story. It was only after he passed that all of these Fighter Pilots contacted me to tell me about what they went through in Vietnam. We cant ever let these stories die with the veterans that sacrificed so much. Please write your memoir! You may think that your story isnt unique or special but it is to the people who love you and to those of us who love aviation and the fighter pilots that went to war for our freedom.

A great program . Cobleigh is one of my favorite aviation writers. Amazon Audible versions are great ...... The stories , if known at the time would have driven some XOs crazy. The RAF stories are awesome . ....

I have Ed's first book, War For The Hell of It. I enjoyed it. Have to admit that when I see a memoir with a Phantom on the cover, I buy it. If memory serves, Ed has an interesting chapter on mistakenly doing the most perfect bombing run on a sensitive, off-limits, building. Cool to see an interview with him.

@@FighterPilotPodcast Jell-O, I hope you get that memoir written. I know you were concerned about the "what's the moral/point" sort of thing, but don't worry about it. It will come out in the storytelling. You said (at the time) you were re-reading Robin Olds' memoir (good book, I enjoyed it), but for a different take, you can have a look at "Once A Fighter Pilot," by Brig. Gen. Jerry Cook (Phantoms!), and also "Angels Three Six - Confessions of a Cold War Fighter Pilot," by Col. Chuck Lehman (a 106 driver!). Both have great anecdotes, the Lehman book, especially. They will certainly give you ideas about how you could write yours.

Exactly, that paint scheme is called "Mountbatten Pink". It was created for the Royal Navy battleship to operate in the Mediterranean back in WW2.

Could you ask your guest about the Iranian F-4 pilots and how he thinks they performed during the Iran-Iraq war? Also, ask him if he knows about the H3 operation that was done by the 8 Iranian F-4 that reached out to the far west corner of Iraq and destroyed a large number of aircraft and helicopters.
