Man looks like this is a lot easier than I thought! I just have to break out the level and make sure to have the car jacked up appropriately to check the fluid level correctly. Thanks for mentioning the car needs to be running, I would have had a real mess on my hands!

Great video, and that's nice how the temp can be measured with an infrared thermometer. I was going to do it with an OBD2 scanner but that's more complicated. I plan to do my fluid a little before the 45k mile interval since it's 6 years old and I drive "spiritedly" most of the time. Don't want any lumpy fluid in my car.

Just did this service today on my Volt; this check procedure is annoying to say the least. I found that on my car, which I'm confident was on the factory fill (changed it today at roughly 93k miles), had roughly a quart over the "fill" port, the way I had it jacked up anyway. So I just filled it back up to where it started weeping out the "fill" port, and then added that quart. I'll add that the oil was black when I serviced it. I gathered from the maintenance plan to service it at 150k miles. I think waiting that long is a terrible idea. Seems like these transmissions need it far more often. Maybe every 60k-70k miles.

Just a comment about making videos using your phone. It is sometimes confusing when using the selfie camera because it usually is in a mirror image mode. You can change this in the settings on all phones and I would recommend doing this, especially if making instructional videos. For example, in the selfie mode, it looks like the transmission is on the passenger side of the vehicle, while I know that it is actually on the driver's side.

How did you know when to plug back the level fill plug (aka level check plug lol) back on? is it when there was nothing left dripping? is this plug basically to determine if you've over-filled? planning to replace my transmission oil next weekend. Thanks for this video!
