I just taped out all the panels prior to installation. I used a scissors for a short time then decided to create a jig. It worked great. Split a 3 inch roll in half and had enough to do the entire project.

Just a suggestion, if you back out the self drilling screw after it goes through the outer sheet then use UV rated silicone to squirt inside the panel then install the scew through the panel it would seal the inside.

Good information about sealing and weatherproofing your greenhouse. If I may, you can use regular tape; one small piece on either side of the top edge of the aluminum and pull them apart separating the sticky backing and aluminum sealant. Thanks

Also be careful with this tape, it will cut you open for the worst "papercut like" cuts only with aluminum so it really slices deep.

I want to share my recent experience so that nobody else has to go through it. This metallic tape and it's caulk backing work well on the regular panels but there is not any room for it in the close tolerances of the doors. It was quite tight in the vent panels and impossible in the doors. I sealed all 8 door panels before trying to assemble the doors. I have painstakingly removed the aluminum tape and caulk from 5 of the 8 panels. It cost me a day of labor and had me saying things that I normally wouldn't. 3 more panels to go. Applying the tape was a piece of cake compared to removing it and it's caulk residue. I wished that someone had pointed this out earlier. Really. The frustration factor pegged when I realized the extra actions required to counter the initial extra actions of sealing the panels.

I sealed all of my door panels with tape. No problem at all. A little tight in some spots, but nothing that a little extra effort didn’t take care of. I didn’t use any caulking, though. Maybe that’s the difference.

I bought the commercial 60 yard rolls, I didn't realize it is about 6X the length of the roll Silver Foxy used. So, I had to return one of the rolls, which Amazon accepted. I unfortunately overestimated and have about 120 yeards of the cut in half material! Don't do what I did unless you over buy. 10 Yd Vs 60 Yd. I got them all done on tops and bottoms, and will make sure that I seal any screw leaks with some gutter guard. Thanks for the video.

Thank you and Yes it is additional, I had forgotten to mention that in the video. It was from a large size tent from any local large home place, I had happen to get this one for free it needed a bit of welding and some bars had to be lengthened to get the size correct. We then screwed it to the wooden deck it is on and fastened it to the aluminum framing of the greenhouse. The chandelier was also reinforced with welded steel attached to the floor and bolted to top center of the greenhouse.

Was there any length on the screws on the inside that would snag you? I'm trying to figure the right length for them but I'm a clutz and I'm worried about hurting myself. The screws I initially got are way to long (1 1/2 in), I just ordered 1/2 inch for pickup but haven't gotten them yet. Should I go for 3/4? The screws I got do seem to have a typical screw sharp end, not the tapered point yours seems to have...

Do NOT use the tape on panels for the door and vents! They will no longer fit into the narrow channels where they are supposed to be secured. Because it is practically impossible to clean off the adhesive once the tape is applied, I had to re-order the door panels. Tape on the rest of the panels is a great idea though - thanks!

What's the purpose/reasoning behind using self tapping screws to hold the panels in place? Is that necessary to do because there is no way to afix the panels from factory, or was it necessary because the the added tape, or??? Thanks!

@brandanmistelske1981
@brandanmistelske1981 6 жыл бұрын
collectorbob810 we have a community garden here that built a greenhouse and it came with a breathable tape that went on the bottom of the panels. The top of the panels for this greenhouse came with metal pieces that slid over the top and covered it. Any panel that didn't have a metal piece on top overlapped under another panel so moisture wouldn't get in the top

This Sealant tape is not a good idea. As the windows barely fit now. Adding this will make the windows even more difficult to install. For added protection. The self tapping screws 1" or 2" with gaskets can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. These are a great idea to help hold the polycarbonate windows in place. I will add these to the to do list. But I also added inside wood structural support frame. Concrete 4x4's in corners then adding 50/50 9" topsoil as my frame is screwed to 4x4's floor. After Concrete has set . My wife wanted a U shaped garden. I added a couple 4x4's the length of greenhouse for shelves at her desired height ,but not the back width so she could plant vegetables that grow high. Then for roof support I added (4) 2x4's angled to a center roof 2"x4"x12'. As extra brace support I added 2 more 2"x4"x12' braces. This will insure the roof & the structure will beat our lovely weather in the P.N.W. 😂

Do you put any holes in the tape on bottom side of the panel? I have seen a few other people recommend that you do this to let any water drain out if it does happen to get inside. If you did not put holes in the bottom side, have you had this issue?
@silverfoxy3527
@silverfoxy3527 7 жыл бұрын
We haven't had any issues with that yet. I think since we sealed both ends well, it's not likely to get moisture inside. But if it does happen over time, we'll probably make a video explaining what happened and hopefully a solution to go along :)

I did use it on the doors and Windows. It still is holding up very well. The only panels that could use a little sprucing up are the vents on the roof. Sometimes the panels are up during a storm (I try to always shut them). However, the other panels look good. A small amount of residue has built up inside of the panels (they are hazy now), but they were pretty clear the first couple of years.

@silverfoxy3527

Well, that is actually the reason why we made this video. Before we sealed them, we came here to youtube to see how to do it. Another person who purchased the same exact greenhouse made a video warning people not to use calking because it doesn't work. It's hard to explain, but the calking kind of gets sucked up into the holes destroying the panel. Besides, this weatherproofing tape works so well, that I would highly recommend this method.
