With this lesson, we’re going to take the familiar C major scale and use it to train the ear to hear ascending and descending intervals. This approach lets you hear the intervals within the scale in much greater detail. This is one video from Greg's 350+ Video Subscription Course at: gregfishmanjazzstudios.com.

This was an outstanding practice tip. I like how one can 'level it up' by trying the top-down option, or mixing weird pairings of scales. I feel like I should practice this for the next month straight. Thank you!

Years ago I got your book Jazz phrasing for beginners but sadly due to work commitments my sax stayed in its case. Dug the book out of a box last night and started working on Belden avenue...and today I stumble onto your KZfaq channel. A good omen? Excellent video, great idea for scale practice. Thanks.

Hey, I've seen you on youtube land before. I would go a step further. Buy an etude book or Hip Licks book. Then, schedule a Skype lesson with Greg. He's a phenomenal player and--speaking as an educator myself--an excellent teacher. I mean, he taught me--and I'm a stupid guitar player ;) Seriously, check out his website and give his material a chance--everything he puts out is really hip and gets the sound of jazz in your ears!

@@willstonier5895 I wish ;) Honestly, Greg Fishman is a great teacher and a hell of a writer. If you've already gone through Jim Snidero's Jazz Conception series, I think that Fishman's material is a great next step. Fishman's writing sounds more authentic to bebop and hardbop--and he's got some interesting (and hilarious) ways to teach crucial elements of the jazz idiom. Worth a look.
