Greg Gagne reveals why Eric Bischoff fired him in WCW after the Hulk Hogan deal. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwo...
Former AWA star/promoter and WCW agent Greg Gagne discusses his time at Ted Turner's WCW (World Championship Wrestling).
Future WCW boss Eric Bischoff got his start for Verne Gagne's AWA years prior as a broadcaster. Greg says he was the one who recommended Eric for a job in WCW.
Gagne also reveals that he was the one who told Eric Bischoff to get Hulk Hogan and actually helped set the original deal up, not Ric Flair. Greg says that recommended that Bischoff buy the AWA so it could go head to head with WCW.
We'll hear why Greg suggests that Eric stole his invasion angle and used it to create the NWO vs WCW. This is a very interesting perspective - Gagne tells it all up to the date that Bischoff fired him.

"I knew it was over the moment I saw Bischoff trying to be talent sitting on a motorcycle doing a 20 minute promo." -King Kong Bundy. The one great thing about Bischoff, is he can teach you how to overheat a territory, then collapse it and drive everyone out of business. Same with Vinny Mac, Russo and Cornette. Now you know why nobody legit wants anything to do with these people. They are bad bets. Always. Though that may be turning the corner soon enough.

Mike Graham in an interview said almost exactly the same thing about Eric. Almost to the letter. Eric always seemed slimy and the way he treated the honky Tonk man was just despicable. I have to give him credit however for the NWO and all that jazz. He really changed the business and challenged Vince and for a time was winning. I just wish he didn’t have to do it with these ruthless business tactics to his own people.

I hope Greg Gagne reads these comments. I grew up in Minnesota and there was nothing, absolutely nothing better than the AWA and All-Star Wrestling. It meant so much to everyone, my dad, my uncles, all my family we would never miss it. We saw matches in Long Prairie, Alexandria, and St. Cloud. The Crusher was amazing. Mad Dog Vuchon. We loved Nick Bockwinkle, Super Destroyer, Baron Von Rascke, and the women enjoyed Renee Goulet. Pro-Wrestling was more popular than the Twins or the Vikings all because of Verne Gagne and of course Greg. Your product was far superior to anything coming out of any other city. The WWF, WEF or whatever...They were all the minor leagues. AWA was absolutely the best, and provided wonderful memories for an entire generation. The AWA was a national treasure.

Eric's "southern twang" didn't really stand out to me. Maybe it's because I was raised in central Florida and the accent is nothing distinctive to me. It wasn't like Eric was illiterate. The guy was brilliant especially if the humbling story about him being a salesman selling ninja costumes for children before breaking into the wrestling business is true. I assumed Eric was well spoken...which is rather helpful in any sales related business and even more so the main spokesman for the most popular faction during that wrestling era. It was a game for kids called Ninja Star Wars that Eric and Sonny Onoo came up with. You'd throw the stars, and they'd stick to the suits with velcro. It’s like when Dusty Rhodes was managing; he’s such a beloved figure in wrestling that no one likes to talk about how he was a booker who routinely screwed wrestlers out of pay. Elevating our heroes to a place where they are infallible and beyond reproach is a mistake, and one I won’t be making. Greg had a great career and seems to be a decent person. Of course as always, everyones version are different & everyone thinks now their plans were sure fire and gonna work. We'll never fully know who said or did what and who came up with what but they all seem to say what was know about Bischoff's experience or lack of and then qhen he got the wcw job. The part of Bischoff's ego and not knowing how to handle the success & not having a plan after the NWO angle got him to number 1. Even Zbysko had said Bischoff went from riding with him& others in production to wanting to travel and ride with the boys. Now u see Hogan, as he and Bischoff aren't as close anymore, saying Eric's big mistake was wanting to hang with the boys 😂

Greg your so funny you and your father didn't invent wrestling lol you had to do with hogan going to wcw, WCW vs AWA nobody would have cared if you weren't so selfish trying to revive the AWA you would still have a job. Thank goodness for NWO lol of course your trying to take credit.

Way too many holes in his story. He grew in the wrestling business he knew , I'm really not buying into his so called naiveté. This would be plausible if it were coming from someone else. But coming from him, this story just sounds like a lot of bull that's been stretched with bits and pieces of truth.
