I'm one of the few that's in the same boat as Greg, I've restarted the game twice, at most getting about 16-18 hours in and it just isn't hitting me. And I'm totally fine with that, I dont have to play and love every game. I know many people swear by RDR2 but as it stands I cant push my way through to see the game's end. Sure you can just go from place to place doing the main story but if you go out and explore the world there's tons of secrets and side stuff to discover. I had more fun after I finished the story just exploring the map than I did during it, and the story is fantastic.

I used to agree with Greg. First time I played when it came out, I dropped out.. Too slow to progress. But this year I decided to play 1 again and after beating it went back to 2, and loved it! Totatlly recomend trying again!

What I liked about RDR2 is the way the game made me think it was looking at every little decision I made. It made me really role play in the game.

I used to be a big fan of R* games back in the PS2 era, but my affinity for their work became less and less over the years. RDR 2 is something I couldn't force myself to finish. Moving around in that game is such a chore it's just insane, I had to give up on it after 10 - 15 hours of misery.

The choice to not let the player run in the camp was a very intentional one as you’ll miss out on so much content and dialogue if you do. You really have to immerse yourself as part of the gang.

It's so wild that Blessing and Greg fell off RDR 2 since it seems right up their alley. RDR 2 is definitely a slow burn and you get the most out of it if you take your time. For what it's worth, the same feelings both Bless and Greg had are the same way I felt about TLOU 2. That game was a slog to get through.

Honestly? Is it the best game to ever do it in each separate category? (mechanics, pacing, replay ability etc) individually no. I think multiple games can beat it at each thing. But as a package. Story, graphics, role playability, gameplay etc. I truly think it’s the greatest game of all time. Totally subjective but honestly no other game hits as hard for me as this game. I just absolutely love the characters, the world, the gameplay. All of it.

My problem with Red Dead 2 is that I wanted to be the bad guy but the story kept trying to push me to not.

my problem with Red Dead 2 is the parts where its too realisitc. The slow walking. The cooking. Alot of that stuff is kinda boring. But its just a small part of something that is great.

Played RDR2 and stopped for 2 years and had only played 15-20 hours . Pandemic I tried it again, and was able to spend lots of time with it (out of work ) and it is a masterpiece and was fun. I get both takes. Greg should eventually give it a try if he ever has the time to devote.

I agree with Greg on this one. Super slow realistic gameplay mixed with 2008 murder fest gunplay and a story that falls apart in the last act. It has great moments in it don't get me wrong but it's not fun.

Red dead 2 was the shit. Played that so much in my first apartment. Haven’t dove that deep in a game til cyber punk recently.

I agree with Greg, i played the 1st one and liked it, I couldn't get through the 2nd one, it was so boring, and took so long to get anywhere, a little fast travel may have helped it. And the controls were atrocious. Assassin Creed games are infinitely better.

I've given it a couple genuine tries now, and will give it another, but I don't really find RD2 actually that fun either. Or at least, much like Elden Ring, the fun part comes too far in between a bunch of other stuff I don't find fun or don't want to do. Wasn't what I was expecting, but I hope after playing Death Stranding, Cyberpunk, and Dragons Dogma I will have some new perspective on absorbing it's world design. Because right now, I think it is the perfect example of a game that is an extraordinary achievement in game development without actually being that fun.

The funny thing is Greg only played 20 hrs and decided to hate it 😂 every review of Starfield was it’s awful for 40 60 100 hours then it suddenly gets good, like put in 100 hours in RDR and you’ll love it too 😂❤🎉

Greg this is your worst take. It’s anti-gamer to not like RDR2, and the fact you like Starfield but think Red Dead isn’t good is insane to me. Starfield is so underwhelming

I mean as a collective people we have all agreed that there are objective things about video games that makes them good or bad. So why when RDR2 fails at so many things and has a lack of others do we just say it's great? The sluggishly controlled protagonist due to high input lag and wait times for animations, almost no progression so you spend the course of the game with the same weapon types and mounts, a HUGE map but only enough open world and side content to fill maybe 20 percent of it at most leaving it feeling empty, a repetitive story and mission structure where every chapter is played out the same until Arthur dies of TB and Dutch loses his mind and the events only happen because every character had to be unrealistically dumb for it to work out the way it did

I'm so happy for this. I agree so much with Greg in many things about this game. Stupid over the top horse physics. Your group sucks, no one is doing anything but they al the time want food, money and that we help with every other shit in the camp. Losing your load out when a mission starts and you have literally only the shit stuff on you. When you search bodys in Missions for better weapons or mun, whatever...to far away from your companions...and they die. Man the presentation is so fucking insanely good, but it plays like shit. Yes hunting, doing your own thing, can be fun.

I agree with Greg. Rdr2 is overrated. The controls are more or less tank controls and the story is pretty much predictable right from the start. I love westerns so that not the problem. RDR 1 is amazing btw. RDR2 is incredible in lots of ways, like the graphics, and in game micro mechanics and voice acting. Imho the game only becomes fun after the main character leaves and you get to play someone else, trying to not spoil here. The way Rockstar does games and especially game play is very linear and frankly boring, every mission is scripted, shoot the man to win missions and that's not something you expect or want out of an open world game, that is way too empty. I'm glad it never won goty the same year God of War totally WON, that game is linear too but as god of wars game play is miles ahead RDR2 it's totally justified, I never loved GoW as much as others did, anyway it's better that RDR2, that's for sure! I know many other people who hated RDR2 but still played through, it took me months to finish it because it was too boring imho. Also worth mentioning. The picture quality on Playstation 4 Pro and PS5 looks really bad on a 75" 4K tv and the HDR is weak. On PS5 the best way to play the game is in 1080p without HDR , to this day they never gave us an update on these things. Red Dead Redemption 1 is a masterpiece and is now Native 4K 60 fps on ps5, RDR 2 is not, the devs dont care about the game that's for sure. Sorry, Greg is right! The other short PC latrino guy is wrong and as it never won goty I think nobody really cares as history will only remember the winners and not the runner ups.

They added far too many realism features that made the game feel like a simulator over an actual fun one. Like your horse wouldn't come to your whistle if it was out of range and couldnt hear you, and running made you too puffed to whistle the horse. Like in an open world game you need fast paced fast travel. 4 out of 5 for Elden Ring is honestly accurate too! I love all of the From Soft games but the Open World ruined it imo.
