It was difficult for Greg Valentine to realize that Vince McMahon perceived him to be an aging wrestler, whose role in the company was to help get the younger talent over. I agree with you that Earthquake was a legit athlete. I think he deserved a longer run as a main event heel in the WWF in the 1990s.

As a kid, I hated Dino Bravo with a passion. As an adult, I think that Dino had one of the greatest positions that any wrestler could ever hope to have, being an upper-midcard heel. Vince McMahon knew he could count on Dino to put on great matches with Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior. As a result, Dino was put in those spots, and he really made the fans believe that Hogan and Warrior were getting their butts handed to them, which made Hogan and Warrior's comebacks seem all the more impressive.

Hilarious reading all the tenta fans in here “he was a sumo wrestler”. They all know their backgrounds. Hammer knew tenta very well. He knew he was a sumo wrestler, which wasn’t at all his angle. He was a professional fat guy. Why is everyone upset that he called him fat? He should be canceled because he called him fat? 🤦🏻‍♂️ People in these interviews have said MUCH worse than what the hammer did here. Grown men upset some other grown man called someone fat..a bit of a silly reaction here fellas.

Valentine's memory is less than perfect. He stated that when he was offered a contract with NWA/JCP he was still tag teaming with Dino Bravo but that Barry Windham already had turned heel and was a member of the 4 Horsemen. But Valentine stopped tagging with Bravo in late November 1987 and Windham didn't turn heel/join the 4 Horsemen until April 20, 1988.

As much as I liked Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine in the 1980s, by the early-1990s, it seemed as though he was out-of-place in the evolving WWF and WCW. By that point in his career, Valentine was in no position to refuse to job for the younger talent, and his refusal to lose matches got him released from WWF and WCW respectively in the 1990s. From there, he left to wrestle on the indy circuit, where he faded into obscurity as an active wrestler, until he retired. All that being said, Greg Valentine has a lot of great stories.
