Greg shares some key steps to starting your own successful grazing operation. There are some essential steps to ensure that you are successful in starting a successful grazing operation. Grazing is a wonderful lifestyle and can be very profitable if you do things correctly at the very beginning. Greg you have hit the nail dead on the head. Raise beef by Regenerative farming and use some of the manure to fertilize your garden. Well done. A solid argument for an honest living. I believe the Creator intended humans to live this way when humans were given "dominion" over the animals. Dominion means, of course, responsibility for the animals and the earth. Just my humble opinion. ✌🇺🇸🖖

Even grain farmers don't have free grain, we can use it at cost of growing it but that's not far from market value. Any way you look at it, grain is an expensive feed source. Cover crops and grasses are the best by far and the cheapest.

MOOving the animals to the home-grown food rather than using expensive seeds, chemicals, equipment, and fuels/maintenance to move food to the immobile animals. MOOving animals are happy animals. Watch Greg's gals and bulls and calves kick up their heels on nearly every move. They love MOOving and the land/biomass loves it too!

The omega 3 content on grass fed cattle is higher than conventional grain feed cattle that’s packed with antibiotics. Also the grass fed cattle have more anti inflammatory compounds. A doctors that worked back in the day with Native American that live on American buffaloes ( bison). Mention that they didn’t have modern health issues like diabetes, and they had a lot of centenary people. Living healthy and mobiles lives. Like you said Greg. Grass fed is the way to go.

I wish you would visit an area that does use some permaculture practices because they have to manage rainfall and flooding, and where those areas can make a go of it, but a lot harder. Like the place in Arizona you were helping. Several different areas in Texas and Louisiana are learning how to figure it out. Lot of fans here in Texas though who knows how many different ecosystems we have. Maybe in the winter you can visit some tough ones where they are figuring it out. I imagine East Texas is very different than Amarillo.

I just wanted to say that I just started watching your videos last week and I have been hooked ever since. It's truly a blessing that your passing on all this knowledge. I have been saving up to start a grass fead Wagyu operation. I definitely am enjoying watching the red Angus cows in your video as well. How many acres would it take to properly manage two separate herds to keep a pure bloodline? I have been looking at 300-500 acre parcels that I would have to go in and timber to make pastures. Would two herds need more than that?

Here in Sonora Texas it is dry, the grass is sparse and with mostly overgrazed pastures. It is a great place for prickly pear cactus and scrub brush. Maybe just maybe your high density grazing might just work here if you had enough acres per animal. Happy Thanksgiving to you Greg, Jan and the boys!

Just searching around on real estate websites the last few months, here in NC raw land is averaging probably 5k per acre. If it has any infrastructure it’s more like 10k. Seems like it’s all snatched up pretty quick.

Greg, I'd be interested in your thoughts on providing free choice minerals (like FCE) to the herd. My background has been human nutrition for the past 30 years so naturally I see the potential for rapid improvement/recovery for the whole ecosystem. All the way from the soil organisms, forage nutrition & species selection, cattle growth and disease resistance to the end consumer, us. I haven't started my herd yet but the prospect of improving the whole ecosystem with one input seems like a good investment, at least in the beginning. Thoughts?

Greg, taxing cows is only a symptom of a much larger problem. Arguing against taxing cows is akin to applying moisturizing lotion to a severely ingrown toenail. I'm all for treating symptoms, but let's also seek therapy to eliminate the cause.
