I didn't have a separate, known-working platform to test the suspected broken CPU after also replacing the RAM. Also didn't wanna reinstall the chip into the original board with new memory and risk something else going wrong. After getting ahold of a second, known-working platform, sure enough, the CPU still refused to POST. So it looks like a double DNF. It makes sense when looking back at the symptoms, however. The beeps coming from the board were very specific. The first set was 100% for a defective CPU. POST process typically doesn't _check_ memory stability until after CPU has been cleared.

It really is like getting 200 fewer Z's. The Z440 was a high end socket 2011v3 Workstation, supporting CPU's with up to 22 cores / 44 threads, Quad-Channel RAM, 40 PCIe Lanes, tons of upgradeability, etc... And is still a viable budget build platform today. The Z240 was a garbage office client, with none of those benefits. Plus you can get a Z440 for a fraction of the price... They only run about $100 on fleaBay. Drop in that same RTX 2060, or a Radeon 5700XT for even better results. A Z440 with a 5700XT can be a $200+ budget build that still runs circles around many modern builds.

Cool video, I just hate when people crap on these slightly older platforms. This was not a bad PC at all specifically for the price. I wouldn't buy from that particular seller but that has nothing to do with the PC. The RTX 2060 Super still goes for $180 to $230 ( I include tax) on eBay. A good 500 GB SSD is around $30 to $35. A used 3TB HD goes for about $30, and a good used HP Z240, Z440, or anything close will cost you about $80 to $100. This PC still has the IPC to run every game at reasonable settings. You can still remove the GPU keep your drives and resale the HP and have a nice base for your next platform. The case is actually easy to mod. I painted the front and side handle panel purple on mine, you can fit a 120mm PWM fan in the bottom front if you remove the speaker. You can also fit an 80 to 90mm slim fan in front of the drive bay if you want to add some RGB Fans. The two adapters to case swap this unit only cost about $25 bucks if you want to change PSUs and put it in a case with better airflow. I don't suggest this platform for everyone but for sub $400 bucks it's not bad. $400 is not a "future-proof" realm by any standard.

Thank you for helping me realize how to troubleshoot a problem with my car. Let me explain, I have a power draw that kills my battery. Said car my second car, so it sits unused from time to time. It wasn't until out of nowhere that I realized the obvious trouble shooting steps you take of "start with the bare minimum" and work your way up to figure out what the issue may be. My troubleshooting will take weeks, if not months to conduct, but I'm going to start with only having fuses hooked up that are required to get the car to start. Slowly add in one fuse at a time until my battery dies, and hopefully this will shed some light as to what is causing the issue. Of course, I need to start from the beginning and see how long it takes for my battery to be completely dead so I know how long I need to let the car sit before putting in one of the fuses. So for example, if it takes 7 days for the battery to die, then I start with the bare minimum fuses needed, wait 8 days, and replace one fuse. Try to start the car, if it starts, wait another 8 days. If it starts, replace another fuse, and wait another 8 days. Do this until the battery goes dead.......... I'm so annoyed with myself right now as both a computer tech, and an automotive enthusiast. Yes, I could take a multimeter around and probe things, but I'd probably miss something, and I don't trust myself using one of those anyway. I'm more of a tech hardware kind of person honestly, and automotive mechanic deficient. That being said, I should be able to apply the above method into figuring out what is killing my battery. Thanks, Greg!

I know this channel is more about PC builds and repairs, but I'm wondering if you'd consider doing a keyboard comparision video at some point. I currently own and use a Logitiech k740 wired keyboard that I absolutely love. It's showing it's age but I recently cleaned it out in an attempt to prolong it's usage. I've looked at other keyboards on the market and none of them that I've come across check all the boxes for me. Furthermore I am a bit spoiled with how typing feels on my K740 compared to even newer keyboards on the market. I do own a Keychron full size keyboard with mint switches and it seems like most keyboards are going the route of swappable switches these days, but I've yet to find anything that feels like an upgrade compared to my K740. I W@H and use my K740 for work as well as personal computing and have never experienced any type of fatigue while using it. My preferences for a keyboard are that it be backlit (doesn't have to be RGB) and I would prefer wired since I don't need yet another device I have to remember to recharge and my keyboard never gets moved from it's dedicated spot on my desk. Since I also use it for work, I do need a full size keyboard with number pad not a TKL. If I could buy another K740 I would, but sadly and foolishly, Logitech disconnected the model.

How much would it cost to buy the business machine, extra ram, and the RTX 2060? I think I could build a system from used Ryzen component for around the same amount although likely would go with a GTX 1070 for now for cost purposes.

I have a feeling My Technology Geeks is the "company" that built this PC and it's just someone rebranding cheap products, that's what the MTG on the peripherals was for btw. Noticed the listing said 32gb ram and it only had 16 also.
@wayland7150
@wayland7150 2 ай бұрын
They know that big numbers impress their particular buyers, not that this would be improved by 32GB of RAM. Faster RAM and an 8 thread CPU might have helped though. The choice of GPU is purely to impress the buyer because in that system it underperforms and they could have used a cheaper GPU.

with those part names and drive usage i would be worried about malware/network sniffers keylogers or just a bios based virus. Like asus bios forcing a install of armory crate.

Remind me of a Dell 3670 put upgrade of the CPU graphics card out of the power supply and used the 12 to 8 plug and it works great to this day. I added 3x star fans and it works amazing today. Upgraded the power supply with absolutely no problem. Obviously I have better gaming computers but I use this quite frequently it works great. Upgraded SSD card no problem this machine just wasn't properly put together right can someone used aftermarket trash parts in the power supplies a piece of garbage and it can be replaced.

I would be concern with the RGB strips they use. They have exposed copper pads they could get shorted against the metal case.

I built a complete computer with all brand new parts for the same price or less than what you did on this one a few years ago I think I spent maybe 350 or so and that's including the case psu motherboard cpu and memory and ssd and hdd and the parts were all brand new but I got them at a great price on sale and no open box specials either. I also want to mention I didn't buy a video card since the amd cpu has integrated graphics.

A better choice for a fully Windows 11 compatible desktop OEM PC would be the Lenovo P520 Think Station. Which may include an 850 Watt PSU. Can be found for less than $250 on eBay or Amazon.

Worth noting, HP workstations are EXTREMELY finnicky with RAM choices. I formerly had an EliteDesk SFF with 2nd gen i7, it was supposed to support 32GB DDR3, but putting anything above 8GB of anything specifically HP or Kingston branded would cause it to not boot. It would boot with 1 stick of Corsair Vengeance 8GB but the moment a second stick was added, it'd throw a tantrum.

Well I can tell you though memory chips are quick to overheat and die, because they lack heat spreader they get too hot and stop working. I could have also been that everything else was except for the CPU memory and motherboard. Memory chips do go bad.

One drop of motor oil on your finger tip will rejuvenate the CPU thermal paste. Reinstall the original CPU and memory sticks with care. Replacing right off isn't probably necessary while troubleshooting. Or at least once its running then reintroduce the original components. Do not introduce other variables like flashing the motherboard while solving a first fail at start up.
