Just a heads-up from someone who uses their iPad exclusively for illustration. If you are thinking of getting a new iPad Air instead of a refurbished Pro M2, the new iPad Air DOES NOT have different RAM options. This might seem pointless but if you use something like Procreate, the amount of RAM in your iPad will limit how many layers you can have active. The iPad Air, even at the 1TB option, only has 8GB of RAM. The M2 iPad Pro from 2022, in the 1TB and 2TB options, has 16GB of RAM.

@whiteQueenP I also noticed that the Ipad air doesn’t have ProMotion, which can be bad for pencil responsivness right ? 60hertz instead of 120. I currently have an Ipad pro 2nd gen (2017), I would like to upgrade but I can’t afford the new Ipad pro. So I was hesitating between the new ipad air and the ipad pro 6th gen from 2022. Good thing is the ipad air has the new pencil BUT doesn’t have ProMotion and the RAM you are mentioning. Am I correct to conclude that the ipad pro 6th gen is a better choice for me ? (Even though I won’t have the new pencil. I’m an illustrator and procreate is the main reason I use an Ipad (and video games but that’s secondary)

Honestly MKBHD said it best- they’re still iPads even if they have more features for the pencil (seriously tho why is there now 4 pencils? why can’t we have 2 max but 1 preferably??) and the pros have OLED & are lighter. but they’re still iPads I’m still here with my iPad 8 chilling
@techinrl9869
@techinrl9869 23 күн бұрын
This is one of the few times I seriously disagree with MKBHD. Why do people only ask the question, “what apps can take advantage of iPadOS?” when this question can equally be asked of macOS. There are very, very few programs that will tax the M1, let alone the M3 Max on a Mac. Most could easily run on less than an M1. The same exists on an iPad, but only the iPad gets questioned about having too much power. It isn’t iPadOS’s fault that there are few apps that can take full advantage. But it’s also not macOS’es fault that very few apps can do the same.

@@PonkanPonkanPonkan No, the point is nobody should be asking this question at all since there really isn’t a whole lot of difference between iPads and Macs. It is silly to ask the question at all because there are so few apps that can tax any computer/tablet. The question is asked to insult the iPad. Those people who demand macOS on the iPad are usually demanding it because they want ONE app the Mac has but the iPad doesn’t, and because of that, iPadOS sucks somehow when the absence of an app has to do with the developer, not iPadOS. Yet nobody insults the Mac for apps that exist on the iPad but not the Mac. See my point? It’s a double standard.

@@PonkanPonkanPonkan No, you don’t understand at all. It is not an issue and shouldn’t be. It would be very bizarre if every app taxed a CPU, overheating it and throttling it badly. The vast majority of apps on all computer platforms don’t do that, so it’s completely normal not to. Yet, the iPad is insulted because it is normal. For some reason, macOS snobs believe every app has to “take advantage of the full power of the M-whatever” (place SoC name here) for the iPad to be a real computer, yet they don’t realize that even fewer apps take full advantage of the SoC’s on Macs. So why aren’t they calling Macs limited because very few apps tax Mac SoC’s? They take it for granted Macs are real computers, but iPads are a toy because… why? A Mac is a real computer but so is an iPad, but the snobs don’t think so for stupid and completely illogical reasons. When’s the last time you heard anyone say the SoC on a Mac is overkill, yet every time Apple revs the iPad Pro, there’s a constant chorus of critics saying the M chip is overkill and useless?

Upgrading from the 2020 11" iPad Pro. Unfortunately it's been accidentally dropped a couple of times and there are a couple of small artifacts at the edges of the screen. So I have been waiting for this release to upgrade. But I always intended to get 1TB of storage in order to get 16GB of memory instead of 8GB. I hate it when my apps reload on me. I would have gotten the 13" for the display as well if they hadn't put it on the 11", but I don't really need that large a screen.

I would say the basic iPad Pro is totally worth it for the specs you don't need, at least for 99.9% of the buyers. I'd imagine it's good only for artists and people who require to do video shooting and editing on the go. Obviously for techies and people who has money to spend to experience the latest and greatest, as there is a difference in experience in screen and pencil tech. If I was 15 years younger I'd get one just for the tech as well. But today, I've become an average user with average needs. A MacBook Air + iPad mini has become the perfect combo for me. I'm still using the iPad mini 5 btw, and still great for media consumption (no gaming)

If you upgrade regularly ie every year or 2, then buy the basic iPad; however if you plan to keep for 3 or 4 yrs the Air is a far better option and if you plan on 5yrs+ than get a Pro.its about future proofing your investment for as long as possible but if future proofing isn’t important because you change them often then the cost to buy is more important (ie the cheapest). If you need a certain feature then that becomes the important factor rather than price or future proofing. I’m using an iPad Pro 10.5” (2017), so I’m now upgrading to the new iPad Pro 11” (2024 M4) and hope to still be using it in 2030.

I’ve heard others mention the strangeness about the air no longer being the thinnest and lightest device but it was introduced and has always just been ‘air’ in comparison to the standard iPad. The new 13“ iPad Air is very interesting to me because I‘ve had my eye on a bigger iPad for a while but was reluctant to get a Pro. If you work with split-screen a lot, having a bigger display really makes a difference. That said, I like the Mini, too, because it is so portable. A Mini and a 13“ Air as a team seem to me the best of both worlds at the moment, with the latter as a laptop replacement. I’m just glad I decided on an Apple Pencil USB-C a while ago because that one will still be compatible with the newest generations.

I'm not saying that upgrading is a must if you have an m1 or m2 ipad pro, however, if someone needs a brand new top of the line tablet, then the M4 offers considerably more for the price than the M2. Over here at least in my country the M4 costs roughly 140 bucks more (base model) compared to the m2, and for that price I would get some upgrades, including an OLED display, twice the amount of storage and what i like the most is that the front facing camera is FINALLY positioned to benefit landscape mode users THANK GOD, not to mention, the performance upgrade with the M4 chip. I would go as far as to say the new Ipad line up (compared to the previous gen) is actually reasonably priced.

I believe iPad Mini will get updated either at fall 2024 or march 2025. A18 Pro, so same chip as iPhone 16 family. Probably the best edition of A18 Pro. In my opinion the best reason to buy iPad Pro M4 is the document scanner. If that is exclusive to iPad Pro M4. If so, iPhone 16 and/or 16 Pro will add that feature thanks to the new NPU. Keep in mind that X Elite and Plus or whatever it's called got an even faster NPU than M4. 45 vs 38 TOPS.

I am stuck between getting the new ipad pro or getting the macbook M3. With the specs I want they cost the same so not sure if I should go ipad or macbook. On one hand ipad has more flexibility on other hand the macbook has laptop apps and features. It would be great if the ipad pro could run macOS as an option.

I want that screen on the pro. Being an iPhone Xr survivor, I can't tell you how much I appreciate a bright screen. The 3nm chip will add about two years to future proofing (which is important to me as I upgrade iPads every 5 to 7 years). So that softens the blow on pricing. Another consideration is inflation (or the devaluation of currency). These things are only going to have upward pressure on prices. My order is in, and my 13 inch pro arrives next Wednesday.

FYI - Apple stores DON’T have THE NEW I-PAD MODELS in their stores yet. They won’t until approximately 5/15/24 if they are delivered on-time. I would call before you go to on 5/15 to make sure that they will be at the Apple stores if you want to physically check the new models out.

I dont need but I want it, ipad pro 2018 64gb, mainly web browsing and media, only issues is storage and ram management, but I cant justify 1k. No need for keyboard, but pen definitely since I do draw from time to time and a folio case, what pissed me off is the nano texture option, I might have use it for photo editing but my mac studio will continue with that task atm.

I wouldn’t get the textured display. It kinda ruins the oled appeal because it kinda mutes everything a bit, lowers black levels when it scatters light.
@luke9278

Don't do it. If anything, you could always just throw a anti glare screen protector and if you don't like it, rip it off. As mentioned by others, you sacrifice color and image sharpness and quality.

@EVIL9000 24 күн бұрын
The nano texture coating requires a custom dust cloth to keep it in top shape. I don't think it would survive the pencil marks. Get a regular screen and a screen protector with paper texture finish for that so you don't ruin the actual surface. Edit: but best is to wait for reviews and teardowns

For _most_ people, the standard iPad is an excellent device - especially since it now has USB-C. The size is large enough, actually very ideal for many cases. For "power users" - the iPad Air was a very solid update - basically last gen's M2 iPad Pro with a few tweaks. Even compelling for older Pro users wanting an upgrade but not able to justify the price hike for the latest Pro models. The Pro is the halo product, and really there for IT professionals and to make the Air look reasonable. It is really only worth it if you plan to use the "pro" features and/or _really_ value an amazing OLED display - granted, I would want to see this in person before going for this. M4 is going to be overpowered for the iPad for a while, but they probably won't update it for a while either. For me, if I can use the device to make money or on the job, then I can go Pro - otherwise, no. The other option is to simply get a previous gen iPad/Air/Pro for less now this event has happened - each event, there are at least a few people wanting to trade up.

Love technology moving forward. Cannot wait to see what Apple shows at WWDC. No new purchases for this normal. Like most normals. When it comes to iPad going to stick with my 2017 Apple 12-inch iPad Pro 256 for content consumption. How compute power, and how fast does a device need to be to watch your KZfaqs clips? And when it comes to displays. Retina is retina. Both Led, and OLED for sharpness. Not blacker blacks, and more lumens it is OLED.

I am even more confused than I was after the launch. I first thought I would downgrade from my 12.9” iPad Pro 5th gen to the new “13”” iPad Air, however I was a little disappointed that the Air didn’t have more upgrades, including the new accessories. Then the reason for the downgrade is because I’m just a general iPad user but I’m an apple snob that loves having all the new releases, also I have been using my iPad 7th Gen for watching shows in bed because of the weight of my iPad Pro, worried about dropping it. But looking at the new air 13” compared to my current 12.9” 5th gen iPad Pro my pro has 1. Promotion Technology, 2. 10MP ultra wide camera, 3. True depth camera, 4. Face ID, 5. XDR brightness 6. four speaker audio, 7. Five studio quality microphones. 8. No need to purchase a new Apple Pencil that i rarely use, 9. I dont need the landscape camera, 10. #2 & #7 also been removed in the new iPad pros either. actually considering I purchase a new iPhone Pro Max every year I think it’s not necessary for my to upgrade or “downgrade” my ipad set up. Thank you for your video and helping me realise i dont actually need it.
