Now we have some basic metals, let's start building a base

Definitely plant one of the huge magical trees and hollow it out rather than placing 10,000 logs yourself.

Could use the Natura Redwood sapling. Then connect multiple into a Treehouse city. Have different trees for different objectives

Is that something the modpack changes? having ladders work while placing them every other block was changed in beta 1.5, long before release 1.7.10. Try vanilla 1.7.10. It won't work.

I know people go to the void world eventually for GTNH. Just the lag issues. But in my mind this will end up being the WORLD TREE base. Just bigger and bigger housing everything in different branches. lol.

Go big on the treehouse base idea. Make it build height with wide foliage you could probably fit the important bits of your season 2 base in the foliage of such a large tree.

When he opens up his inventory, next to the Chunk Icon, there are 2 'cog' wheels for settings. I only have one, client settings. What's the other one?

You could use a sacred oak tree as the base and then focus of equivalent exchange out for spruce I think.

My parasocial friend this is minecraft 1.7.10 you only need ladders every other block. I think it would look cool if you used the flowering vines as your ladders. chiseled planks are spawn proof. It's why I use quarried stone, it's spawn proof too. Leaves should be as well like bottom 1/2 slabs are.

The ladder thing has to be a mod in the pack. The whole ladder every other block was removed in beta 1.5 for vanilla.
