100% you need to watch Gremlins 2:The New Batch. It's got a totally different feel to it and is completely off the rails. If you think Gremlins is camp then your mind will be blown by Gremlins 2. You can just tell that everyone on the entire team had a blast making it. It's nuts!

Not only did I see this in the theater when I was 7, but a couple of years later we watched this in school before Christmas break started. This was a legitimate kids movie with monsters exploding in the microwave.

Kids were definitely watching this movie in the 80s. There was a ton of Gremlins merchandise. I had a Gizmo squeaking plush and a wonderfully sculpted Stripe figure. There were trading cards and read-along book-and-record sets, bed sheets, you name it. The script was actually much more graphic and scary but they toned it down and made it more kid-friendly.

I was single digits when this one came out, and I LOVED it growing up. 80s kids were used to this kind of film. Even our Disney movies were dark as hell (Something Wicked This Way Comes, Witch Mountain, etc).

Gremlins was actually darker and Steven Spielberg made the creators cut or change a few scenes. The needle in the teacher’s butt was originally a ton of needles in his face. And they delete a scene where we see the gremlin trying to pull the knife out of his chest in the kitchen. If you look over the mom’s shoulder, you can see it happening! 😮

My mom took me to the theater when it came out I was like 5 or 6 and have been OBSESSED since.. definitely a Christmas classic in my family can’t wait till ya’ll watch the 2nd one also Christmasy ish

I saw this theatrically in '84 when I was 14. Everyone was surprised by how dark it was; the Christmas Eve story was a real show stopper. There was TONS of merchandising and I still have a Gremlins pin I was given at the theater.

The sequels plays up the zaniness of the bar to a 10 but it’s sooo good! The practicals here are totally stellar but the sequels is up and beyond, it almost baffles me how they were able to pull off such effects.

Fun small fact. According to the dvd commentary, Barney the dog was responsible for destroying a large number of gizmos on the set. That dog hated the puppets and freaked out 90% of the time he was around them.

This movie came out when I was a junior in high school. I remember going to see it, we loved it then and now. Check this out mean Mrs Deagle was the goat of mothers back in the day. She was Flo the waitress at Mel’s diner On a tv sitcom called Alice. “Kiss my grits” lol. Awesome reaction again. Love seeing you post can’t wait for the next one love and prayers

IF the Gremlins come out of Gizmo already mean and bad, I can imagine what the old guy did to make Gizmo so calm and nice and would love to see a Gizmo origin story. I always thought about this as a kid, Gremlins 2 the new batch is my favorite movie too.

I was 6 / 7 in 84... and this was my Star Wars. I saw it 13 times... at some point my dad would literally drop me off in the theater by myself and go watch another movie (80s parenting). Before it hit VHS I had memorised the movie.. and once acted out the whole thing for my grandmother. 😂 this was a Gateway horror film for so many of us... during the time when horror was at its absolute peak. Yes, see Gremlins 2... it's a meta camp classic.

I remember when this came out in Australia. I was around 8-9 years old and a 7/11 opened up near me and they had a green lime slurpee to coincide with the movie release. Plus you got a cool sticker of a gremlin and they put gremlin foot prints all around the floor of the store.

20:20 Must be a descendant of a shield maiden or was a shield maiden in another life (norse warrior/viking women). Though someone pointed out that farm wives from then would've been really tough and more than capable fighters since they'd be protecting the property when their men were off raiding or exploring. Either way, she had shield and knife/sword ready to go

I mentioned this on another reaction, but this film was a PG feature. It scared so many kids and got so many complaints that it (along with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) helped create the PG-13 rating. Both films were "too scary" for PG but not scary/horrifying enough to be rated R.

We were dragged to a lot of movies that probably weren't the best for kids. The first movie i saw in the theaters was the original Ghostbusters when i was 5. The demon dogs scared me so bad lol

Gremlins has a higher age rating in the uk than it does in america. The sequel age rating has been bumped down tho, cus its much more a spoof cartoonish movie compared to the much darker original

Yeah, watched this as a kid and it was way more scary and gross than expected - did not love it. I'm not sure I even finished it. I knew it wouldn't bother me so much as an adult but thought it would prolly not be my cup of tea, but I finally rewatched it around the same time you did and loved it.

Omg where did Che get the cardigan? I graduated hs in 1989 & I’ve been low-key looking for a letter jacket or sweater with a “D”. Blue 1989 sweater fits the mood too… I ‘m excited you’re doing this movie! My brother (2yrs. younger) & I used to rent it at least every month for a long time ‘til our, well, 9 years younger than the other brother got freaked out & my parents put an end to it. The younger one also heard my cousins & me talking about Candyman (still hasn’t seen it) & could not have a mirror in his bedroom for years. He had to have been 15 at the time. I always end up feeling bad for the gremlins. I have a litter of kittens that I call Grendel & the Gremlins. Grendel is the only identifiable one - the other ones I can’t tell apart. They all have little pointy gremlin/dragon faces. Grendel is the only boy, which is weird because they’re orange tabbies. I love all the gremlins!

One of my tias had a yorkshire terrier named 'Gizmo'. He was cute but, such an absolute asshole of a dog. He. 👏🏾Did.👏🏾 Not.👏🏾 Like.👏🏾 Anyone.👏🏾 At.👏🏾👏🏾 All! Other than my tia, of course. And he lived for so long. We used to joke that he lived so long because he was a demon. Edited to say: I saw a far right advert after the end of your video. I wasnt expecting to see that in the petty pumpkin patch. 🤔
