For a moment I was was pissed that Kouji wasn't shouting the attack names, then I realised that both Mazinger Z and Grendizer won the moment they started shouting attacks. We really be starting Reconstruction of the Super Robot sensibilities. 🙏❤️💪 I appreciate that, while there's a lot of spikes and other overdesigns traits, there are very little panel lines, unlike the Infinity toyline. One think that disliked is the opening and ending, not bad songs but they dont sing about how cool the main mecha is and that's a Super Robot staple. Also, the first episode took place in a Arabian city, and the race scene has a lot of Italian racers. I see what thet did there. ❤️

Koji point blanking the Saucer Beast with Breast fire was 👌 Grendizer's new design is fantastic, love the spikey. And yeah, songs that sing about how cool the robot is will always be top tier lol And I hadn't noticed that, but is a good detail. Maybe I'll make a follow up of small details like that to go over

Show has a wonderful 70s anime vibe so far, loving the tropes Giant robot comes out the pool, rocket punches, ludicrous weapons activated by shouting the weapon names, unnecessarily convoluted transformation sequences. Also a ton of in-joke references to the MotoGP series during the bike race sequence. But I can also see the inspiration from Gundam and more recent animes in a good way This series is going to be great

The ost during the battle in the last half of the episode just screams 70's super robo fashion with all the trumpets. This year has been such an amazing run so far for us mecha bros.

@@BahirYahya It was a good choice at the time. Mazinger Z was put through hell and beyond as the first Super Robot, and it deserved a Warrior's Rest. Now that genre expanded, it makes sense to show it more prominently and keep him in the fight.

This this series of the Mazinger franchise has returned. Maybe Gurren Lagann, The Big O, Space Runaway Ideon, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Jeeg, Brave franchise, or Gaiking might make a comeback one day too, right?

Watched it and loved the 1st episode! Since the previous trailers have shown Mazinger's head decapitated and Grendizer holding onto his palms, it is expected that Mazinger is not strong enough yet to take down the Vega armies but from the opening that shows Koji piloting Mazinger and Sayaka piloting Double Spacer (which in a case of deja vu) I used to put Sayaka or Hikaru in Double Spacer or Marina Spacer in the older Super Robot Wars games if Grendizer is in the game. Surprisingly Dr Hell is still around which maybe Dr Hell might team up with the Vega army in a future episode? Will Great Mazinger and Getta Robo appear in this series also? Maybe as a cameo but if it is a team-up, I will be shedding tears as the last time we see them together on screen is the team-up movie in the 70s. Even though it is a different character design, I find Duke and Koji quite all right compared to their 70s counterpart although Hikaru looks like a tribal girl instead of a Horse Range girl and some might wonder why Sayaka has purple hair instead of brown hair like her OG version, maybe because Maria look too similar to Sayaka and having two exact same hair colour will be a nightmare for the colouring artists. Hope in the next episode, the gang will move back to Japan and have Grendizer stationed in the secret base where we can see Grendizer taking off out of the waterfall. I am so buying the Soul of Chougkin figure when it come out!

Koji and Sayaka in a new story, with Mazinger, doctor hell involved that starts more or less at the end of Mazinger z. With Grendizer appearing and showing how more badass it is than Mazinger… with thunder! I am sure that doctor hell, the genius family of koji and the photonic lab will be more involved. Being in Arabia, it gives space for the photonic lab to be in Japan, create a local new lab and be a new spot to fly to bardoss island/Crete/ancient civilization. Will doctor hell help koji or decide to join Vega?

Yeah, very strange for Dr Hell to have any relevancy here if Vega is also here. We also don't know if those were just some remnants still harrassing them or if Hell is actually still around, considering this Grendizer still takes place after Great Mazinger. I'm kind of hoping Hell is still around behind the scenes, because he can either team up with Vega or help out Koji and crew because Vega is that big of a threat to the planet as a whole

Asshole? Oh my gooooodness, did I hear that word about Duke's attitute to Koji? I never saw it that way, actually. Say, I'm 51 and I grew up with Duke as my model of manhood. I've always taken Duke's early "snob" behaviour as part of his secret identity. He'd rather go back tending the farm works than speak of anything that might betray him. I don't know. After Vega shows up, Duke's behaviour changes and he treats Koji like a peer, although aware of who he is and what Grendizer is. What do you think?

Snobby is actually a better word as you said lol. In the original their relationship is very brotherly later on, but comparing eps 1-1 Duke is kind of a jerk to Koji, whereas in Gren U he's much more reserved and kind in general. I also don't use "asshole" very seriously, so it was more of a casual description than how I feel he really is

Z fighting was better than expected, I didn't imagine him beating a saucer beast at all Also Grendizer scales well above a saucer beast now. I'm guessing in future episodes the spacer and Z will take on the saucer beasts and Grendizer against the other dizers

You can tell the the director for Gundam Seed worked on this. The intro (short of gratuitous naked imagery because Arabia) being the most obvious.

Funny enough, same writer to Witch From Mercury is doing this anime. 1:55, Goro ain't a kid in this anime but a horse because guess they wanted to get to the juicy parts which is Duke's drama against the Vega empire which I can commend them for. No more of that big sombrero guy who happens to be funny and I don't see Danbei anywhere. XD Duke having this Shouchi Tsugami-like feel to him is quite something to me. We all know the original Duke in the old anime would rather beat the crap outta Kouji for saying something. Here, he loves Sayaka and Kouji lovingly. If you haven't checked out Kamen Rider Agito, do it. The main character is basically like Duke in this anime. 2:41, OH YEAH I SEE IT! Why didn't I notice that earlier?!

I absolutely love this version the first episode filled in so many potholes from the original. For example koji piloting the TFO why on earth would he be flying in that and not Mazinger Z or even Great Mazinger which he knows how to pilot because we’ve seen him do it in the movie.

Yeah, the timeline for G U is kinda unclear at this point. Dr. Hell may or may not still be around, which means Great Mazinger may or may not have happened or even happened yet, or if it even gets any relevance at all in the story going forward. Mazinger Z got pretty tore up this episode so we'll probably see Koji in the TFO now.

@@RevoSKL Mazinger has been through worse but I think they’re going with a new timeline to be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of great Mazinger but Mazkaiser could be an option for a sequel as he supposed to be about the same strength as grendizer. Dr Hill could be defeated and what we saw was the remnants of his army still roaming wild and we could be seeing a team up or the Vega could just destroy Dr hell and take his place. I’m hoping it becomes a success and we see some more of the old super robots I think like Gaiking . I’m still waiting to see if they let Boss Borat in the series .

I watched it with some of my friends. Pretty cool, although I will admit it is my first time watching Grendizer, let alone the Mazinger series in general, with knowing the cast through SRW, mainly Koji. Being familiar with it, with the less fierce art style, Koji is still definitely that hot-blooded person, but it's very cool to see how the story is going to unfold with Fleed.

I was super moved while watching the first episode, it's really a dream come true to have Grendizer back ! It is a very good first episode, the chara and mecha designs are top notch, the pace is fast with good amount of informations and well balanced between actions and dialogues, a pleasure to watch ! My minor complain for the moment is for the last scene, far too short it deserved at least few more shots to make Grendizer arrival to destroy the ennemies more impactfull. Oh and the focus is maybe too much on Koji and Mazingers characters but i'm sure it will be more balanced when the other characters will be introduced. Daisuke is my favorite and it's his story, I want the focus to be more on him and his cast.

No, I prefer the grendizer original, is a good develop of the story but very lack of the fighting and ejecution with out the music of the original series isnt the same, Mazinger z good a very fluid fight forgetting that is in 3d, sorry, i had that watch again the original grendizer after this for compare that grendizer is gold pure to side of grendizer u 😅. Grendizer U with the pass of the time gonna be very forgettable adaptation. Honestly i want believe that is other alternative universe with out propose more than dont let die the ip. And yes, Go nagai dont do nothing for add ideas and nothing to this anime, is like only want to watch for see if do a new work or not.

I think both will have their place. Grendizer U as it is now, almost 5 decades after the original is a pure reimagining for a new generation, and I think that's great for such an old series. The original will always be there, but I think this new series has the advantage of not having to dwell in it's predecessors shadow because of the huge generational gap. Just my thoughts though
