Gretsch Electromatic Rat Rod G5410T
It's that time of the week, where we release another Focus KZfaq video review; and today's subject is the wonderful new-for-2020 Gretsch Electromatic Rat Rod G5410T, complete with a Bigsby vibrato. Featured as our #GuitarOfTheDay earlier in the week (which went down a treat), we thought we'd bring this guitar into the spotlight, and offer you a little sonic perspective, for those of you (wisely) considering purchasing one of these.
The Rat Rod is retro-styled to suit its '50s-inspired tones - just look at those popping red pickups! Constructed from laminated maple, with a maple U profile neck, Black Top Filter’Tron pickups and 22 Medium Jumbo mounted into a 12"-radius rosewood fingerboard, this guitar offers the best of both vintage-inspired tones, and modern comfort and playability. Add in that matte finish, and this is a very fine instrument to behold! What are your thoughts on this? In this video, James runs us through the guitar, together with a Cornell Plexi 18/20 head, a Source Audio True Spring reverb and a Nobels ODR-1 for a little overdrive. All sounds are captured using an sE Electronics V7.
We hope you enjoy this video, and let us know how what you think about our content, and be sure to leave us suggestions for future videos!
Until the next one...

Great demo. I loved the sounds you brought out of the Rat Rod. I recently purchased a Tri-Five G5410 and love it. I'm thinking about picking one of these up for my GF. Possibly the new Ibanez QX52, because she is tiny and this will be her first guitar.

I went the other way, fell into rat rods last summer and just picked up a tri-five today. I grew up playing my vintage 6120 and the rat rod and tri-five are both close enough to it that I've retired the 6120 to studio work and exclusively play my (modded) 5410s live. They're killer road guitars when properly set up. The biggest differences are the voicing, the neck size/shape, and the body size, but the 5410s are close enough that it quickly becomes familiar.

@@stiiimes I don’t know why I didn’t get a notification. Great comment and information about the similar but different Gretsch guitars. Whenever I get frustrated with a different guitar I pick up the Gretsch and feel right again.

Howdy. I had a Rat Rod for a couple weeks and the sound felt really warm.l, especially when jamming with a drummer. I wondered if it was the pickups or what. How would the sound compare between this and a Gretsch Eddie Cochran model or Gretsch Hot Rod or Gretsch Reverend Horton Heat model? Thanks.

Is this a fully hollowbody? Is there any centre-block Gretsch guitar with Filter'tron that is around of this price range?

Check out the rest of the Streamliner series. They have several centerblock models available. Way cool.

It is a semi-hollow body. I believe the full hollow body guitars such as the Gretch Electromatic 5420 has the center block as well as the Filtration pickups. Gretch calls them Broad Trons on the Electromatic series guitars.

BUDDY...... you have a deluxe reverb right there and you run a gretsch thru a plexi clone... what are you doing. the hope was to see if this thing had good gretsch tone and the fender would have shown it. wth

Define a good "gretsch tone" though. Not everyone wants to play country though it and this guitar clearly isn't aimed at the chet Atkins crowd

It's a valid question and at least a little should be played. However, I dont play rockabilly, mostly because I've never tried, but I'm considering one of these because they look bad ass. I like to see other stuff played on them too.
