13:58 Conclusion
WHAT CAUSES GREY HAIR:
So, let's start with a bit of science, the human body has millions of hair follicles or small sacs lining the skin. The follicles generate hair and colour or pigment cells that contain melanin. Over time, hair follicles lose pigment cells, this results in grey/white hair colour.
The process of hair changing from darker colour to white or grey with age is mainly due to genetics. It can be inherited from either parent. The colour of our hair is determined by the form of hair pigment that we have.
The cells in the hair bulb produce a little bit of hydrogen peroxide, which is a metabolic byproduct, and typically there's an enzyme called catalase that breaks this down to water and oxygen. But as we age, there's declining levels of catalase, and this allows the build-up of hydrogen peroxide in the hair bulb, this damages and destroys the pigment-producing cells of our hair.
Vitamin deficiencies: Any deficiencies of vitamin B-6, B-12, biotin, vitamin D, or vitamin E can lead to premature greying.
Genetics: Premature greying is largely connected to genetics. Race and ethnicity play roles, as well. Premature greying in white people can start as early as 20 years old, while a person can be as young as 25 years old among Asians, and 30 years in African-Americans populations, according to a 2013 study: ijdvl.com/premature-graying-o...
Some medical conditions can cause premature greying including some autoimmune diseases and deficiencies in thyroid function, if you are concerned about this being a cause as you may have some other symptoms, you should speak to your GP or Pharmacist.
Stresses: There are conflicting research studies on real-life stress, such as injury, leading to premature greying.
If you are concerned about stress causing grey or white hair or stress in general, please check out my videos on reducing or managing stress and anxiety, which may be helpful to you and may be helpful to preventing prematurely greying hair:
• Stress Relief | How To...
• Overthinking | How to ...
• Anxiety Attack Symptom...
• My 7 Best Revision Tec...
Please also find my mental health playlist for more videos: • Mental Health | How To...
Smoking: A 2013 study showed that smokers are 2 ½ times more likely to start greying before 30 as non-smokers. Several studies have found a link between premature greying and smoking. It’s well-known that smoking increases the risk for lung cancer and heart disease. If you're ready to quit please find my video playlist for more support - • Quit Smoking | Stop Sm...
The long-term effects of smoking can also affect hair. Smoking constricts blood vessels, which can reduce blood flow to hair follicles and cause hair loss. Additionally, toxins in cigarettes can damage parts of your body including your hair follicles and pigmentation, causing early grey hair.
Oxidative stress: While greying is mostly genetic, oxidative stress in the body may play a part when the process happens prematurely. Oxidative stress is a complex process, but it can be simply defined as an imbalance between ‘free radicals’ and ‘antioxidants’ in your body.
Some chemical hair dyes and hair products, even shampoos, can lead to premature hair greying. Many of these products contain harmful ingredients that decrease melanin.
Hydrogen peroxide, which is in many hair dyes, is one of these harmful chemicals. Excessive use of products that can bleach hair will also eventually cause it to turn white or grey. Remember to speak to a healthcare professional when planning to use stronger hair dyes.

I started loosing my hair in my mid 20’s & as a guy having very thick wavy hair it was pissing me off. On my 31st birthday I buzzed my hair to the scalp for the first time ever! Wow I couldn’t believe I did that!!! After a few months I shaved my head bald. Wow I couldn’t believe what I looked like in the mirror! Now I’m 51 & I’ve saved sooo much money on shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, going to the barber to get my hair cut, etc. I buzz & shave my head myself whenever I want. My hair or lack of it is not who I am. I’m a liberated dude who’s enjoying life everyday. Godspeed😁

I found my first grey hair at just 9 years old,my mother had just passed away,so it could have been stress,but early greying also runs in the family,I was totally grey by my early twenties,now in my sixties,it is pure white,all 3 of my children also began greying in their late teens.

I do believe grey hair can be reversed some how. I'm 47 and hardly have any greys. I did pull a grey hair out a couple weeks ago, about 3 inches long and noticed that half of it was grey/white and the other half was my original light brown hair colour. The half of the hair that was my light brown colour was the root end of the hair. So, the hair started growing out of my scalp grey and then stopped greying and then started growing the normal colour again. I'm taking all kinds of supplements. I wish I knew what caused this reversal.

If gray/silver/white hair is caused by nutrient deficiencies, those deficiencies should be corrected ASAP because they can lead to more serious health problems. Dr. Joel Wallach told about turkeys which died from aneurysms from lack of copper in their diet....and their feathers had turned white from the original brown or other color.

I'm 36 and noticed I have tons of grey hairs on the sides of my head now. I really started seeing it during the pandemic, during which I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and suffered from numerous panic attacks. I've had grey hairs in the past as young as in my teens and they've usually gone back to black. My mom says it's genetic but regardless I hate how it looks. Part of me is hoping it's due to the stress I've endured during the lockdowns and that some of it is reversible. This has been bothering me a lot.

Thanks Abraham for the video! You must have read my mind because I was just thinking about this! I'm an ER physician in my early 30s and never had grey hair until this past year, when all of a sudden they seem to be exponentially increasing. Maybe it's the stress from working in an ER during this pandemic, but I wonder if it's just my time to get them. Do you think it is ever possible to revert a grey hair back to its original color? I understand grey hair is inevitable with age, but if someone just has a few prematurely, do you think with these lifestyle modifications, they could temporarily reverse the process? Also, when you mention smoking, does that include cannabis smoking? I've tried to find good studies on this, but cannot. Every study I find seems to refer to tobacco smoking. I think globally there is so much we don't know about cannabis, and most info out there seems to be anecdotal. Thanks again for the great content!

Well the video is pretty full of good info tho. I doubt that you can reverse a specific hair strain to return to its original color, but in general it seems that if you fix whataver is causing the premature graying of the hair, all the new hair that grows should be its original color. And we lose/grow about 100 hair strains a day so.... :)

What if my parents didn’t get grey hair until they were in their 50’s my sister who’s 1 year younger than me does not have any grey hair. And I started to get grey hair when I was like 27-28. Why is they?
@mandandi
@mandandi Жыл бұрын
In my case, grey hair turning in was due to lack of nutrients. My beard turned grey at 28. Then when I was 40, I found out I had parasites all over my body , basically competing with my organs for the nutrients I put in my body. Once i got rid of the parasites, my beard and hair turned black. Since then, the grey hair comes and goes for a few months each year. Each time, I find out that I lack some nutrients, and when I get them, the hair turn black once again. Now I juice or blend vegetables each week and that keeps the grey hair at bay.

When you turn grey mostly is determined by genetics. A friend turn all grey in his 30's, just like his father did. No deficiencies according to his doctor. While there may other factors, you really can't stop turning grey. I call it my glitter coming in, and like my parents, it didn't begin until i was in my fifties. If I continue to follow my parents patterns, I won't be all silver until my 80s.

Even though I don't have that many compare to others my age but still I think there something about the covid shots that causing me this kind of side affects. I guess some peoples react differently then other ... sucks that now I have to look for vitamins and things to slow down

You have good gut health and can absorb all the nutrients from your food . I haven’t finished watching this video but I believe it’s a copper deficiency that causes grey hair . I had a very stressful life and always had a ton of healthy hair until 3 months after I had covid about 18 moths ago . Half of my hair is gone and it looks really lackluster and flat now .
