The UK is home to a number of small game species that can't be found down in South Africa. One of these species is the Grey Squirrel - An abundant and problematic (and surprisingly tasty) animal that can be legally hunted with an airgun. In this video Cai and I head out with two Air Arms PCPs to shoot a few squirrels for the pot.

happy owner of a crosman phantom .22 break barrel, sub 12 foot pound air rifle... at 100 feet 33.33 yards or 30 meters and a 3-9x40 scope the grey (or black) squirrels and crows drop like flies... at times i wished i had an air arms rifle with a magazine, because winds here are pretty wild most days and misses happen often due to wind gusts, but thats all part of the game. great vids, new subby here, keep it up!

If anyone sees this and wants to try, in N America they’re a good starter game, because in the wild they’re just like bigger game. They can smell you coming, so you have to come from up wind, and they have good ears and eyes. The little buggers will watch you from around the other side of the tree, or completely disappear. In the fall, during mating and food storing, they don’t seem to notice noise like branches breaking as much, because they’re busy getting to it, but will still scent you. They aren’t that easy to find. The ones that are used to people are a totally different story. If someone has them in the back yard for example, it’s super easy to get close enough, and have them come in the open. We consider them tofu of the forest, since they don’t have a strong taste at all, but boiled up, with some good veggies are decent.

Nice hunt , I do a bit of squirrel hunting here in Michigan! I was watching how you skinned them and may have a better way. You cut through the tail bone but not completely through the skin on the back then step on the tail close too the body and pull up on the back legs. This peels the skin down to the head. There will be a tab of skin on the belly pull up on this to the back feet then cut at foot joints and gut it. Takes a couple minutes.

Great vid guys, nice seeing you shooting the squizzers matt, and you also Cai, so what do you think generally matt of the species we can shoot here, there is quite a variety that can be taken with an air rifle yes ? but best of all is that you looked like you had a great time with sub 12 fpe, thanks Cai for entertaining him, and doing a bloody good stew ! atb Phil

@AirArmsHuntingSA 8 жыл бұрын
We probably have a larger variety in South Africa, but the country is so vast and the terrain is so spread-out that we sometimes have to travel really far to shoot certain species. The UK is great because you don't have to go far to find animals to hunt with the Airgun

UK guys. I used to go pest control hunting as a lad with my grandad (he was a gamekeeper on a large plot of wooded land). I then went to a city university were airguns would look suspicious so lost touch with the sport. I have recently got back into target shooting to get my eye in and would love to move back to rabbiting/general license quarry. But I dont even know where to start with looking for permission to vermin hunt. Since i have moved away from home my contacts in the farming community here is slim. Any advice on where to ask for hints?

Air Arms export rifles already modified for whichever country they are being sent to. So if you buy an S400 or an S410 for example, you will find that it probably doesn't have a silencer attached - just a muzzle brake.

very nice video as usual. I need guidance in something. I'm this close to buying a diana 27 but there's a problem... the stock broke and was repaired (I have a picture of it if someone could help me I'd send it) and it looks good but I'm very scared that it might be not a good repair work and the gun might brake on me... it's repaired on the thinner part of the stock where your hand fits when you hold the gun. is there any way for me to secure that it won't brake? can it be as solid as if the repair never happenned? I need help because I've never had a repaired stock and this is a total deal breaker as of now
@AirArmsHuntingSA
@AirArmsHuntingSA 8 жыл бұрын
I broke a stock once...also on the pistol grip. The only way to get it really strong is to put a bolt through the pistol grip (from the bottom up) or to drill out a cavity and then push a dowel through and epoxy/wood glue it in. I would definitely get a professional to do it though!
