Off-Grid Gravity Water System using Beaver Pond Water

Our homestead gardens needs more water so its time to use the beaver pond for an off-grid gravity water system.
We installed a pumped storage water system using around 2000 feet of pipe and a 1000 gallon tank. The total lift from the beaver pond to the tank is approx. 35 feet.
Using a Bobcat trencher with the Toolcat was brilliant for installing the water pipes.... except for that saturated clay part
The Honda water pump runs about 90 minutes to fill the tank and uses very little fuel.
In the future if we build a large structure on the hill by the tank (like a hay barn?!) we could collect rain water to feed the tank. In the meantime using a couple gallons of gas each summer is a very affordable way to fill an off-grid gravity water system.

I'm pretty sure none of you enjoyed this digging in the muck (well maybe Jeff did) at the time, but I imagine you all like the results now. I know kids and wife's that would have been non-stop complaining while they barely dug....hats off to all of you terrific girls! You are a real asset to the human condition in this world.

Chances are pretty good that with that water source so close to your house you would be able to dig a well and tap into more pure ground water (after filtering) to supply the house. You might be able to do what Red Poppy Ranch did and dig your own shallow well. As long as you don't dig the well deeper then what the county will allow you to do yourself. If you haven't yet you should check them out... They are a really nice family just like you guys are. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I

Love you guys! I can only imagine what awesome adults your girls are going to be with all this experience under their belts. I am envious. I started learning simply by doing and messing up by myself in my 20s. Now at 69, I know what jobs I can do alone (plus you tube), which need assistance and which need a professional. Saves me a lot of money on my little patch of ground and the satisfaction is priceless. And anyone who thinks operating a single wheel wheelbarrow full of liquid across a plank is easy should try it. Amazing strength and technique on her part. Dumping it, no matter how graceless, in the RIGHT spot, is a successful job well done.

Nice video. I have a tip for you to free the vehical; when the mud isnt to wet i use two bags of quick cement. It costs almost nothing. when you pore it just in front and back of the wheels mix it a bit withe dirt and have a cup of coffee. It dries in 25 min. ready to drive out. remove the slabs to be reused in landscaping. Ive managed to get unstuck this way without anyone noticing my strugle. good luck next time.

Next time you have a muddy area you need to work in just dig a nice deep hole and put your pump in that to dry the area out. Thats how most land here in Florida gets developed.

You guys are funny. I don't know why but females struggling in the mud kinda reminds me of disco and the 1970's. But the real comedy was when mom retorts to her young daughters sincere warning to be careful... "I have handled a knife or two in my life before this" (or words to that effect) as mom proceeds to almost take a nice slice out of her own shin. I subbed after watching the root cellar video because the young daughters are such good workers and the family as a whole cracks me up. I don't know what dad would do without his girls. Mom and Dads offspring will be so capable when they grow up... And lets face it... Without the females... dad would be doing DIH video's... meaning... Do it himself. :-I
