We need more players like Grigor Dimitrov from this younger generation. Love of the sport (sure he's broken racquets here and there, but you don't see him getting into petty fights with other players or the umpires/line judges), or constantly whining to his coaches/team. Just a super likeable, classy guy.

If Grigor improves his backhand, I mean, hitting consistent top-spin backhands rather than mostly slicing it, he can beat the big dogs in the game. It might be delusional, but I would love to see him winning a Grand Slam. Cilic did it, Wawrinka did it, Del Potro did it. Grigor could do it, especially in Wimbledon.

@@Molloy1951100%. I don't think it matters whether he have a good slice or not, if I'm playing an opponent who only slices, I'll play to his backhand whenever I feel threaten. Because I know exactly what type of ball is coming back. And tour level players will anticipate the slice and set up an attack because there isn't any variation.

It's not all about talent unfortunately, but yeah he deserves at least one GS 👑. .... P.s. What a player, I really hope next year he will play cat and mouse with Djokovic in a GS Final (Wimbledon?). Hey Nole, are you the best ever? That last one is clearly not about Grigor but my satisfaction, for the love of certain types of playing styles.

His peak is yet to come. I have felt he has been a bit overrated so far. I think it's because of his inconsistency and the fact that he didn't play strong opponents in the tournaments he won. He has strong opponents on tour now with Djokovic, Alcaraz, Medvedev, and Sinner. I have to beat them and get the glory for real.

Griggy did REALLY well to end 2023 back inside the top 15. It is Dimi's highest since his 2017/2018 rankings peak. The video is about Griggy, but you just HAD to sneak You-Know-Who in at the end.🙄
@Marino2018
@Marino2018 5 ай бұрын
Initially, I thought the same thing. However, I think that whole clip with Novak and Grigor was to highlight his (Grigor's) humility and vulnerability. Also, I think it speaks volumes of the respect that Novak and I'm sure many other players on the tour have for Grigor. It's easy to put up walls and stuff emotions when facing defeat, it takes bravery and strength to show how you really feel in front of others, let alone an entire stadium full of people.
@got2bjosh

@@Marino2018 You're misreading my semiotic critique of the video. In no way is losing an important final of a major tournament considered a true highlight. Just cut to the gracious runner-up speech. Including You-Know-Who winning is shady & unnecessary especially since that was avoided elsewhere. It steals focus from the subject of the video to appeal to an already tiresome & toxic fanbase.
@Marino2018
@Marino2018 5 ай бұрын
@@got2bjosh It feels like you have a bit of a personal bias towards Djokovic that is affecting how you're seeing the video, as in what you consider "true highlights" of a player on tour. Players are people just like you and me. Roger, Rafa, Novak, and many likable pros have "highlights" other than their tennis. It's the ones that not only have great tennis but also great personality that goes beyond tennis do I think they get videos like these. Grigor is one of the few pros that actually are selected to do more casual and funny videos on the ATP channel, and that's saying something of him. That's all I'm saying, that the purpose of the end of the video is to highlight Grigor's character and to bask in the fact of how far he's climbed back up the rank. Again, that's why his name comes up in discussions about players that fans will always remember. These highlights are about more than just winning.

It was a great video until the last few moments. Why did you show Novak’s winning point? Not sure Grigor will rate his tears as a highlight, could’ve kept just the award ceremony because getting the finalist plate is a highlight for him. I wish there was a part 2 because he has enough good shots for another video. Surprised a few of them were left out such as the smash from the back of the court against Struff in Miami.

Dimitrov was once prodigy tennis boy considered for next gen replacement for Federer and as you can see talent is there but for some reason he wasted it and forgot to be consistent player with actual results. I would put him into same group with Monfils-Kirgios and Bublic. Super talented ,playing for fun and wasting their talents until they realise they are just too old now to start taking tennis seriously...
@gabrielametodieva8360
@gabrielametodieva8360 5 ай бұрын
You can’t put Dimitrov in the same category as Bublik and Kyrgios, guys who obviously don’t care about their results and haven’t been to the top 10. Grigor has been through a lot of struggles, including physical post 2018. He had problems with his shoulder for years which affected his serve. Then he suffered from long covid and various other issues where he retired from so many matches in 2021-22. He just doesn’t talk about it every day unlike other players. No one knows what someone is really going through.

@@gabrielametodieva8360 well like you said issues started in 2018 but the problem is he didn't play consistent up to 2018 either. He is great tennis player but didn't push it as much as Djokovic, Nadal or Federer did to make some actual results. Like I said he played for fun. That.s all and wasted opportunity to be great. Shame...

He could potentially for a brief period maybe if he starts the season well. He’s currently #9 post Roland Garros so its possible to gain points in the first part of the season before the starts defending the majority of his points. Unlikely, but we'll see. 1) At Griggy's best, he's mainly a top 20 player. Hasn't been top 10 since his 2018 peak. 2) He hasn't won a title since 2017. 3) He's getting older. 4) He has to force himself to stay aggressive. It doesn't come naturally. Being Mr. Nice Guy bleeds onto the court. 5) The one-handed backhand is more of a liability. Two-handed is better because it offers more versatility, stability, & control. One-handed is too easy to mistime & get out of position.
