That's not exactly what happened in this match if you watched it carefully. It's actually the opposite. Dimitrov played controlled aggression tennis. He was not forcing nor picking picking shots when a more practical calls for it. He picked his opportunities a lot more carefully than what we've normally been accustomed seeing from him.
@samfitzpatrick7891

He hasn't been inconsistent. He got better from his pro debut to 2014, then he slumped in 15 and 16, improved a lot in 17, then has been in a slump since. He hasn't had any big wins like this in nearly 4 years

@@animeshkhare1769 Depends on court condition as well, Medvedev hates slow conditions because it affects his serve where he wants free points, eg his match against Djokovic. @@animeshkhare1769 Yeah that’s the main reason why Nadal, Federer and Thiem have fared better against Medvedev than Djokovic or Zverev have (although Federer never really faced prime Medvedev). The three of them have good slices and are able to trade slices with Medvedev until he sets them up for easy forehands, and all 3 have incredible forehands. Djokovic and Zverev’s forehands are good but not as powerful as Nadal Federer or Thiem’s, and both of them do not use the slice often.

He's too defensive for a one handed player. Look at Federer, Tsitsipas and the like. They've had to adapt to the fact that a one handed backhand is more vulnerable in baseline exchanges by attacking and coming in to the net. Grigor hasn't shown the ability to do that on a consistent basis, he'd much rather hang from the back of the court instead. That's why he's been an underachiever, and I enjoy watching him too.

@@ultimpower9350 Thiem is an outlier because he has sheer power off both wings and is consistent with his slice and his one handed backhand. You could argue Gonzalez was like that as well, but for the most part one handed players are at a disadvantage in baseline exchanges, and as a result they've needed to attack to win points.

See I don't watch tennis all the time. But I can say just one thing fir a normal tennis watcher he plays 75 % like Federer. I mean just look at him sometimes I have to double check him.

Federer is much more aggressive. Dimitrov works much harder for every point. Federer uses all-court play to bother his opponent's rhythm and make them play worse. Dimitrov gets into long rallies, and after getting a bad case of Covid his fitness isn't as good as it used to be. You can see how much he struggled physically in the 3rd set.

Dimitrov was simply inspired by Medvedev's failure after the score was 4: 1 in the second set, eight consecutive lost games speaks only of a curiosity, Khurkach will explain to you that it was a misunderstanding.

What a Great performance they are!! Congrat Dimi and well done with one-handed backhand. Besides, using lots of slices for Med means so difficult to attack. I watched with gratitude ^___^

amazingly well played from Dimitrov, from the highlights alone it looked like it wasn't medvedev having a bad day but Domitrov having a really good one.

Nice to see Grigor holding up his nerve and get on top. He always had a massive potential. It's all in mind. He's got all the shots in the world and more. I say it again...it's all in mind.

Dimitrov is one of few players that deserved at least 1 GS title because he's such a talent if only he has the consistency and mental toughness, think David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych too

Politely disagree with you for Dimitrov, consistency and mental toughness are 2 of the most important things needed to win a Slam regardless of talent
@lotus630
@lotus630 2 жыл бұрын
people overrate players with pretty strokes all the time "he's so talented, if only he had the consistency" sounds the same as "that would have been an ace if I didn't double fault" if you can't cut out your errors, you simply aren't good enough I'm sure Ferrer and Berdych could hit prettier shots, but they chose to be more consistent instead

I doubt that Dimitrov will win at least one more match against Medvedev, he also lost in this match: 6: 4 and 4: 1 with two lost innings, this is a loss, but there was a misunderstanding with Medvedev, the serve disappeared altogether, Zverev also had big problems with that.

I really love Dimitrov, he is a great player and pretty consistent in his career and he needs a break like this hoping he gets to top 3 one day before he retires because if he can play like this from now on I be on he’s side the whole way. But if not he has never stood out among all the tennis stars but I hope he does because this shows he can win majors
