Grimdark Future: How to play Saurian Starhosts

In this video we go over all the units, tactics, and strategies for the Saurian Starhosts in Grimdark Future. Then at the end we have a 1500 point battle report.

Absolutely fantastic paint job on those Starhost models! The tribal designs on their armor look amazing. And as always, a great battle report! I'm really digging this series.

The oldest gamer that I know (81 years old, this week) plays Saurians in AoF and Starhost in GDF. His tactics are basically a sledgehammer made out of dinosaurs. Win or lose, he has fun, and his opponent WILL take a lot of casualties. (He squished my Jackals last week.)

@@CantusTropus He was a player in the games run by my former oldest gaming friend, who died a few months ago. (Captain Peter Rice - a man that attended his own funeral, months before his death. He wanted people to remember a cantankerous old man, not a corpse in a casket. It worked.)

Any advice for a new player getting into Jackals?

@@Kepora1 Jackals are squishy - so take advantage of cover and your Strider ability. If you are in the open you WILL get squished. They are... maybe not the best army for a beginner - again, squishy. And a 5+ Quality is not a great start. (Carnivore turns that around - effectively giving them a 4+ Quality in melee.) If you want to take advantage of the Carnivore ability then for God's sake upgrade their CCWs to something with either Rending or a decent AP. (A unit of Stalkers with claw hands and a hero that gives them Ambush is a nasty surprise for most foes. AP4....)

@@YeAuldGrump I was looming at Stalkers, but I got a block of Vultures with claws and pistols w/ a harpoon veteran, a small sniper squad to pop up, a big block of assault beasts with hooks w/ a harpoon veteran, a block of Elites w/ a veteran and satellite, and a great beast

This is by far some of the best OPR content out there. As a newcomer to the hobby I really needed this. Making a list and then providing reflections on the units afterwards is a fantastic touch. Something that could be good for some shorter form content is revisiting the armies for use in GDF Firefight. I wonder if the analysis of the units on a larger scale translates equally to the smaller games, or if power levels grow or shrink based on opposing model counts.

Amazing battle report ! So much fun ! I Really like the editing, much more dynamique than post battle reps. I do like some dice throwing some time but sometimes it's just to long... But a steady camera shot is CHEF KISS

Your videos are really awesome and the battle report is really engaging and done with so much love - two thumbs up. Nevertheless, I have to bring up some critic as well. The title reads "How to play..." but all you basically do is read all of the stats. I would expect some strategy and which units to choose and why - otherwise every "How to..." will turn out to be the same reading of the stats. I would approciate some of YOUR opinion on the strength and weaknesses and of possible strategies. Although it seems to be a beginner series, you don't comment on the strategy (or WHY the units move/act a certain way) during the battle report. I loved the energy and how it is done, because its entertaining, but for a "How to" it should be explaining somewhat. I hope this still constructive enough feedback. I love how you make the videos and adore your painted miniature. Keep up the good work! Cheer Whispershades

I lean into that in the more recent videos. This was one of my first in the series and I think I have got my feet under me a bit more since. Everyone will get another go around as a kind of army 102 video

Your miniatures deserve their time on the turn table. Great detail the tribal markings. For spare points/power gaming/combo: Gecko Hero as Priest with a sniper rifle, joined to any squad, sniping & Jaguar Pouncing (which targets models(!)) to pressure the aura pieces of your opponent. Nice vid. Still the first part is too long for me^^

I REALLY like how you did the trees on the chameleons. What did you use for that? Any videos you recommend that show how to do that? Im a basing n00b so.. 😅

Those are pieces of clump foliage glued on. Look for it from woodland scenics, their are tons of different woodland colors from dark greens to bright yellows for autumn colors

@@WarbossFitz Oh thats awesome, thank you! I never really did basing before but they really make those models look great. I will be using that color scheme as well - great job overall. I almost finished printing my 1st army (starhosts).

On the extra attack given for “predator” can that roll count for Furious if resulted in 6?

If the rules were worded the same in the effect I would tend to say yes. But the rules are completely different. Furious gives another successful hit. Predator let's you roll another dice to try and hit.
