Can we take a moment to appreciate how ahead of its time the animation and illustrations were in this episode? this was early 2000s bro and it rivals animes TODAY. not only that but the Sound Design?! even when they walk on the air they added a unique sound effect, theres sooo much care put into Bleach. Grimmjow is a fan favorite, I cant WAIT for the upcoming stuff, Bleach just continues to go up and up from here. Edit - I wanted to mention that when i was younger, first time watching Bleach and i seen Grimmjow do this at 7:37 he immediately became my favorite espada lol

Sonido is specifically an Arrancar/Hollow movement ability. Each major race/faction has their own Flashstep equivalent, although the exact details behind how they work are are not elaborated upon that much, but they all do work differently. We know that Flashstep is specifically a technique, meaning that you have to learn it and it requires specific movements to be performed. Sonido however is instinctual, just like most other Hollow abilities. Mechanics behind Sonido are never explained properly, but one of the theories is that Arrancars/Hollows achieve their speed simply through sheer brute force, their movement ripping spacetime apart.

Kinda. Sonido and it’s word origin is breaking sound barriers. It’s something mainly the espada have and is faster than the flash step. Ichigo uses it full hollow and in thousand year blood war arc when he breaks the prison and arrives back.

@@mattprice302 it's not faster than Flashstep. The speed of the characters depends entirely on how strong they are compared to eachother. If one character can easily beat another character's ass, it's pretty much guaranteed that they are faster regardless of which technique is used. We literally it happen in this episode after Ramgiku gets the 5 times power up from getting rid of the seal. SPOILER ALERT The only possible exception is Aizen's unnamed teleportation technique that he uses while fighting Dangai Ichigo.

@@FerunaLutelou I supposed but the sonidos are better because they are undetectable as shown by ulquiorra saying so and the Quincy when ichigo did it in his return to soul society out of the jail. He didn’t flash step to byakuya he sonido.

@@mattprice302 wrong again. Ulquiorra saying "He completely slipped past my Pesquisa. It wasn't Flashstep he used, it was Sonido" doesnt mean the technique is undetectable. First, he wasn't expecting Ichigo to use Sonido, just like he didn't expect him to use Cero. Second, Ichigo at the time is several times stronger than Ulquiorra, as shown by Ichigo using the exact same move Ulquiorra did after his second release and to the exact same effect on his opponent. Also, If we are talking which technique is superior, then it would either be Quincy Hirenkyaku technique or Fullbringers' unnamed soul manipulation technique when used for movement. Aizen's teleport is unique so it's not worth arguing about. Why these 2 are so good? Because they have additional benefits besides high speed movement. A single use of Hirenkyaku can last through the whole fight, which makes it way more efficient than all other movement techniques AND you can carry others with you without holding them. It also can be argued to provide more freedom of movement. How so? Because Hirenkyaku deployes a Reishi platform that moves the user around at will. As long as you maintain the platform you dont need to create another one. Ishida was quite a dumbass for not utilising this technique to it's full potential. It was shown numerous times to effortlessly cancel momentum of Ishida's movement, which could be used to move very unpredictably through 3d space compared to other movememt techniques which require an equal amount of effort to stop as they do to move at high speed. The Fullbringer technique by itself is nothing special, however it can be effortlessly combined with Flashstep or Sonido as it doesnt interfere with the user's movement in any way. Basically, it's ok on it's own, but if you can perform another movement technique as well, then you can use the Fullbringer technique as a buff. However it's probably incompatible with Hirenkyaku, not in the original way it is used. At best it could probably be used to negate air resistance when using Hirenkyaku.

small detail i like considering the emphasis the show puts into names. Grimmjow never once refers to ichigo by his name. he always calls him Soul reaper.

3:22 the ice was the only thing holding his wounds closed. Ichigo getting bullied by Grimmjow is one of the most disrespectful moments in history. Like this isn't even a fight, Ichigo is just getting his shit rocked endlessly and so bad even the music wasn't on his side, it knew what was coming 8:25

Yeah Ichigo really does get his ass beat a lot in this series but it'll be worth it I promise The little boxer shuffle that Grimmjow does at 7:38 is genuinely one of my favourite things about this fight and I can't explain why

In the manga, the getsuga tensho he hit Grimmjow with caused way more damage and he'll have a lasting scar across his chest from it. The anime censored the damage, but the scar will remain in following episodes

Volume 24 Kubo Poem: "Doesn't matter who it is I'll fucking crush anybody" -Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez === Hikotsu Taiho, Hihio Zabimaru's only useful technique. === I love how much of an Ikkaku stan you are. I wonder if you'll become an Ichibe stan as well since I remember that you've been compared to him before, appearance wise anyway. === I love how well animated parts of this episode were animated for the time. Especially for a weekly show not a seasonal one. === The worst thing imaginable for Ichigo is not being able to be a protector. Unlike his contemporaries in other series who have loftier goals, Ichigo exists solely to protect others. It must be unimaginably agonizing for someone like that to go through what Ichigo has been going through in this arc. === Who is Tessai to be so good at Kaido (healing kido) when its normally something for Squad 4? I wondered that after this episode and I will tell you that he's not a former member of the medical division.

If Kisuke taught Ichigo bankai sooner in his ten days of training before the soul society arc then this probably wouldn't be happening. When you really think about it Kisuke did essentially send Ichigo to his death by not teaching him bankai. Especially since he knew what Aizen was about

He wasn't able to train him bankai until Ichigo got strong enough to subjugate his Zanpakuto and he didnt have the experience AND power until after the kenpachi fight.. it was trial by fire

@@mikecash2384 no no. What I mean is that he would know how to use bankai. He wouldn't exactly use it in all his fights. But the fight against kenpachi would be his trial on if he was truly capable of using bankai. Kisuke could have taught him how to connect with his Zampakto some more and in the days Kisuke was getting the portal ready that could have been when Ichigo trained with old man Zangetsu. Frankly Ichigo would have gotten his ass kicked by anyone else besides Kenpachi because of how his power works. And in the days he had before he fought Byakuya he could have mastered it and maybe even start to use his hollow powers without losing control.

@clasher138 not at all what kisuke did was perfect for ichigo and he literally couldn't teach him how to connect with his Zanpakuto he needed to go through life or death battles and thats exactly what Ichigo did.. Yoruichi even states that Kisuke predicted his exact progress while he was training for bankai...
