“I ruined him….” Oh that makes me smile so much. I wish more people would get that level of payback at a minimum for judges making poor decisions.

Good on her dad for going after the judge. California still had the death penalty back then and this judge was handing out the most pathetic sentences.

We had 911 in 1982. What we didn’t have was an understanding of “domestic violence.” Such situations were considered “a private matter,” or dismissed as a “lovers’ tiff.” Violence against women was considered natural, normal, and there was a lot of victim blaming. “ She must have asked for it!”

Her dad is what every dad should be. He’s a gem.

I had a friend who was murdered, and her family never got over it. So, I understand Dominique's family and their grief.

This story was told with such respect and empathy. Rarely is true crime spoken about like this giving a voice to the victim.

Dominique was an absolute angel who rescued and took care of a lot of animals who needed help and more. She had a pure heart of gold 💔

Just a side note, as a DV survivor, getting out of a DV relationship is not always the issue. The bigger issue is staying out and away from the abuser!

I always loved her father. Had his books and after her death, he began the serious writing on crimes and had a fantastic column in Vanity Fair that I never missed. Such a sad story. Having been in a domestic violence situation, I know the terror she had to have felt.

Dominique WAS found in the neighbor's backyard, not her own driveway. In fact you didn't know it at the time but you captured probably the best look at the spot that any of us will ever get to see. Pause the video at 11:17 and look through the neighbor's gate. Right near the bush back there is EXACTLY where she was. Lead investigator Harold Johnston, in an episode of "E: True Hollywood Story", revisited the scene and detailed what happened while walking the exact path to the exact spot. Several different camera angles showed him pointing out where she was located, which match what few photos of the crime scene are available. To summarize: A line of bushes and possibly some light fencing divided the two properties but the gate structures weren't there in 1982 so movement into each yard was unimpeded. Sweeney grabbed Dominique from her front door / porch area and dragged her, hands around her neck throughout, roughly 25 feet over toward the neighbor's front yard. He rounded the bushes, stepping into the neighbor's yard and onto their driveway. He turned right (north) along the dividing line and continued pulling Dominique down the driveway by her throat. Finally after getting a few yards past the back end of the driveway he finished the act. Her head was pointing north and her feet were pointing south. The show about Dominique's death is now uploaded here on KZfaq in several parts, the investigator's walkthrough happens near the end of the first part. I suggest everyone who reads this to go give it a look. it's infuriating because it just proves that much more that this four minute "crime of passion" wasn't the result of Sweeney just losing it and pouncing on Dunne where she stood, he took his sweet time yanking her around over the length of 100 feet or more. But here just before the 40th anniversary of her tragic and disgusting death it gives me a little bit of happiness to think about Dominique and know that I'll always remember her. Rest in peace you innocent, beautiful soul. You deserved so much more.

This was a sad thing, but it's infuriating the lenient sentence Dominique's killer received. It's good her father worked to get that judge out of the law practice. So many judges don't deserve their robes; they pity the victimizer over the victim. This seems especially true nowadays. You often hear that the career criminal is also a "victim of society". It's leniency such as this that is chipping away at our society.

I remember when this happened. But the way you told her story really affected me emotionally. Out of all of your videos, this one touched me the most. I watched it yesterday and still feel emotional. I was in high school when she passed away. I remember seeing it on the news. So heartbreaking. She was a beautiful girl and such a talented actress. Who knows what she could have accomplished in her life. The monster who killed her deserved more than two and a half years behind bars. He should have got life behind bars. I remember this. I was a kid but I remember it being on the news. As a parent it's your worst nightmare to hear your child has died, let alone murdered. I'm not kidding I would be so full of rage I would personally make him suffer. I also know that rage wouldn't simply go away either. Hats off to the father.

After Dominique was killed by her ex-boyfriend, her dad would stand at his work passing out flyers saying the man cooking your meal tonight had killed my daughter. Her ex went and changed his name and moved.

Her murderer is back in L.A. working again as a chef and i believe he changed his name if im not mistaken. I was only 10 when she was murdered but a few years later when i watched Poltergeist and found out what happened to her it has always stuck with me just how awful and tragic her death was. The staggering amount of inaction and neglect from everyone involved, from Packer, to the police, the judge, and the jury was always mind blowing to me to put it mildly. 3 years for strangling someone to death over the course of 3 minutes. Absolutely enraging. The p.o.s. that did it actually moved to Florida in the mid 90's and started a relationship with another woman but her father recognized him after seeing an article Dunne's father had written. Dunne's brother thankfully got ahold of her and stopped it all from happening.

I love all your videos but I wanted to thank you for handling these historic, tragic cases with such dignity and respect to the victims and families. Their stories deserve to be remembered and showing how and where they lived, not just the details of their deaths, gives a much needed humanity to their stories and not Hollywood tabloid fodder or Shock content.

This is heartbreaking...The way you've narrated her life story and this horrible crime is very respectful and thorough. I've always loved the film poltergeist (it terrified me as a child) but whenever I watch it I inevitably think of her death. I cannot believe how horribly the INjustice system failed her....not once, but twice. The phone call to police and that joke of a sentence. I travelled from Ireland to LA and my first stop was to Westwood Cemetery. I saw Dominiques grave and noticed Heather O'Rourkes nearby. Strange that they were laid to rest so close together. Its also especially upsetting that Sweeney only got three years for his crime. Imagine if he would give an interview to Grimm Life Collective...

She was very attractive and a talented actress. A great loss of life. Her brother Griffin is a great actor too. I like the part he played (Jack) in an American werewolf in London. Dominique Dunne before embarking on a career as an actress I worked for a year in Italy in Florence, she spoke Italian correctly. Her physical appearance resembled an Italian girl. Too little punishment given to her ex boyfriend is unfair R.I.P. Dominique

I just recently got to know Dominique. The 70s ABC TV show Family brought me here. She played the role Erica. A 17 year old girl on a visit from an all girls boarding school to visit friend Buddy but Erica was also on a quest to lose her virginity to an older man and she chose Buddy’s older brother Willie 😂😂 She did a great job in that episode. Her story breaks my heart. As a grieving parent myself to an only 17 year old son, her daddy was heartbroken until he reunited with his darling daughter 💕🙏

It’s so sad to think about what she would have done with her life; she had so much to look forward to. Incredible that the guy who murdered her is out and free; life isn’t at all fair sometimes.

So sad all the tragedies that happens to the cast , Craig T Nelson went to our church to speak last year , very humble nice man, when we would ask about the movie , he respectfully said “ we won’t discuss that” . So it really took a toll on everyone 😔

If anyone is curious, it appears the killer's name is now John Maura and he works at Smith Ranch Homes (a retirement community) in a high-ranking position. He appears to have some sort of connect there since they refuse to get rid of him.

That's so very sweet of you to make a video like this! I was almost killed by my ex and know another victim exists. Noone believed me, and I left almost all of my former friends. Yuck! I learned some tough stuff back then. It's actually helping me now to survive amongst... People. How to become a stranger to everyone? This is one of the ways. Actually, being in an abusive relationship works like a trigger for pulling closer other unfortunate events with other people. The only way to get out of that is to become a stranger to everyone and then build relationships anew.

If you're being abused, tell everybody. Family, friends, neighbors. He'll be too afraid to take it any further. Don't listen to his excuses. Put him out. Murderers need to be executed.

More than sad, tragic to say the least. Murderer received 44 months in prison, unbelievable. Rest in Peace.

What’s even sadder is to this day there aren’t too many resources to help women and men escape, especially if they have children. Having kids with the person who is abusing you makes it 10 times harder…

Hopefully you get this message but I hope you someday cover Judith Barsi, she was a child actress in the 1980’s that had so much potential, her most notable roles are Ducky from the Land Before Time, Anne-Marie from All Dogs Go to Heaven, and other minor roles that demonstrated her star quality. She and her mother were victims of domestic violence and abuse, at the hands of her father. It’s probably Hollywood’s most tragic case of the most unfortunate things to have happened to celebrities. While Judith has relatives from her mother’s side, there is no relatives in the Hollywood area that could help keep her memories alive. It took, from what I understand, over 10 maybe 15 years for both her and her mother to have a headstone plaque, fund raised by fans. While there are some videos that cover her story, just seems seeing certain places that were vital to her life would help anyone who doesn’t know her life learn more of Judith. The places that I have seen other people film is her home that the family earned through Judith, and her grave. The places I haven’t seen us the restaurant that Judith’s parents met at, the apartment Judith and her mother used as a retreat from her father’s abuse, and where Don Bluth’s studios. Those are the places that I can think of if you want to see more than two locations. Thank you for the effort you make to show us and document certain locations that tell history, especially for the victims.
