A creepy detail I found out...Elizabeth Montgomery was actually distantly related to Lizzie Borden. She didn't know it at the time of the filming of "The Legend of Lizzie Borden", but she was actually her 6th cousin, twice removed. *shivers!*

Lizzie died of pneumonia on June 1, 1927, in Fall River. The day Lizzie died, Emma had an accident and broke her hip. She died due to chronic nephritis, 9 days later, on June 10, 1927. The Borden sisters, along with the rest of the family, are buried side by side at the family plot in 'Oak Grove Cemetery,' Fall River.

While attending my grandmother's funeral there, I asked the caretaker where Lizzie was buried. He said "Not with the family." When I asked why he told us it was because people through the years "tampered" with her grave. So everyone knows she's not where she is supposed to be, she had been moved - but nobody knows to where. True or not, it was interesting.

One interesting fact: Lizzie was an early advocate for animals. She rescued many and dedicated a lot of her money for the cause. Many of the parties that she held at Maplecroft were actually fundraisers for animal rights organizations. Another interesting fact: Lizzie's uncle (her mother's brother) lived next door to them and he killed his own children. That family had some real issues.

Great job with Lizzie's story! Enjoyed the video! The main reason Lizzie got off was the phrase "guilty beyond reasonable doubt"! Even though many things maybe pointed to Lizzie, nothing directly tied her to the murders. They had to let her go. They could not take her life on "maybe she did it". Back then, many men, (jurors), did not believe a woman could commit such violent murders. Elizabeth Montgomery's portrayal in the tv-movie of how Lizzie could have done it is very plausible!

Lizzie was ostracized from polite society/ her social circle, after the court case. She did go live high up on the hill with actors and actresses as her only friends, which was frowned on in good society. Actors were looked down upon.

Quick correction...Emma lived at the Maplecroft house only for a short time, as she was firmly against Lizzie's lesbian friends and 'acquaintances' that frequented the house. Also, you can read the actual transcript from the trial...there's a book written verbatim from it. 'The Trial of Lizzie Borden' if I'm not mistaken. Their Uncle that visited and spent the night before the murders was the only other person (IMHO) that was a legitimate suspect.

I’ve been avidly waiting for this video and you both did not disappoint. Lizzie (her name was actually Elizabeth) Borden changed her name after the murders to Lizbeth, I guess to try and distance herself from the tragedy. Fun fact: Elizabeth Montgomery was related (distance cousins) to Lizzie. As for whodunnit? I think Lizzie did commit the crimes, possibly in collusion with the maid. It’s interesting to note that had Andrew died before Abby, his estate would have passed to her and then, with her own death, to her relatives and not to the Borden girls.

Another well done tour. Always interesting in your technique. Another Haunt you may be interested in visiting is Jefferson, Texas. The Diamond Bessie murder took place there and at the time of the trial (1877) it was as sensational as the O.J. Simpson trial in the US. Her grave is worth a visit in a very historic graveyard. Several of the hotels there are reputably haunted. My favorite's the Excelsior, built in the 1850s, and from first hand experience I believe it. There's even a nightly ghost walk tour visiting all of the saloons and brothels from the hell raising days. A beautiful well kept town.

That's not far from where I live. I've been there years ago, but never had time for sightseeing. It is a beautiful town with some interesting history. While I'm thinking of that area of the state, Scottsville cemetery is a must-see. Just south-east of Jefferson, it's got some of the most beautiful statuary you'll ever see in such a small cemetery. It's a classic example of the American "garden cemeteries", with rose bushes, flowers, ornamental flowering trees and shrubs, etc.. Well worth the visit for anyone in the area.

That was lizzies bedroom at one time. But she convinced Emma to switch rooms with her. At the time of the murder Lizzie had the larger room. Emma slept in the small adjoining room.

Michael, you’re such an amazing storyteller and cinematographer!!! When I’m watching you and Jennifer, nothing else exists. Someday, you need to direct a movie my friend. I know it would be an incredible time, up for an award. Peace, blessings and ‘Happy Halloween’💀♥️🤟🏽

The Jack the Ripper locations are still there but they've changed a lot since the 1890's. London is a lot bigger city now and there are modern buildings in those locations.

Elizabeth Montgomery was also distantly related to Lizzie Borden, whom she portrayed in a 1975 movie.

Elizabeth Montgomery is your second cousin? That's awesome! Did you know her well? I remember when I was a kid she co-starred with O.J. Simpson in a movie originally titled A Killing Affair. I think studio executives eventually ended up changing the title to something a little tamer. I admired her courage for doing that movie, as an interracial love affair was at the center of it.

Great stuff! Love the channel. I'm a native of New Bedford (no longer reside there though) and have been to the Borden house as well. Unfortunately never made it to Maplecroft. I can remember my sisters saying the Lizzie Borden rhyme while jumping rope as kids. Seemed like everyone new it back then. Not sure how much time you were able to spend in New Bedford but there are a lot of old historical homes, areas and cemeteries there I'm sure you'd find interesting. Unfortunately it's not the same city it once was...but still some nice areas nonetheless. Looking forward to more content. Subscribed.

Elizabeth Montgomery was sixth cousins with Lizzie Borden, but she was unaware of that fact, even when she portrayed Lizzie in the 1975 film. It was discovered after Montgomery had passed. Fascinating.

Im a borden by blood and i gotta say that watching this was amazing, pictures of the house and how you explained it all Fun Fact : in the 1960s when my mom was a teenager that house was a private residence, she lived there until martha Mcquinn bought it and transformed it into a B&B During that time she had run ins with spirits, Her bedroom was andrew and abbeys room and she supposedly saw Abbey walking from the ajoining room which was her dressing room in 1892 into the bedroom

Love this video. I always believed that Lizzie was guilty. I also think that probably back in those days, it was highly unlikely that women were sentenced even when guilty of crimes. At least, that is my theory. If it had been a male, he probably would have been convicted of this crime. I just discovered this channel. Keep bringing them.

I was there back in 2010. It felt weird being in the actual spots where her father and step mom were killed. Maplecroft really is a nice looking house. That’s where the kids would stand outside yelling that rhyme at her towards the house.

I have known modern day relatives of the family. Based on their temperament, I would say she did it (by having somebody else do the heavy lifting so to speak) Even if they had hard evidence, she rightfully should have been acquitted as they had her drugged out of her mind on morphine to "keep her calm". Growing up near Fall River, I have always been fascinated with this case. I even did a video on this, thanks for giving the story justice.

What are her modern day relatives like? I have noticed that families often carry distinct traits and culture that is unique to the family......no matter the generation. It can be good or bad. I'm told by my older relatives that I'm very much like one of my great-grandmothers in looks and personality. I don't remember her. I was at her funeral mass in 1987. She was born in 1904 and I was born in 1982. I think that certain attributes are passed through the generations. I'm just very curious about the modern day Borden family.
