My last name is "Griswold" like in the National Lampoons Vacation Movie, so I had to build the wagon queen family truckster for road trips across America.
Today, July 29, 2023 is the 40th anniversary of the original Classic National Lampoons Vacation Movie and with the car sitting in my garage I wanted to share more information about the build.
So this is the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. It is in the original Chevy Chase Vacation movie. Four were made but all were destroyed. We decided to build this vacation car so we could road trip with our own Griswold family across America.
This Truckster is a 1984 Ford LTD Country Squire. You car has been in several TV and movie productions since we built it.
The 2005 Warner Brother Vacation Movie with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate you will see our truckster near the end of the film and also in the extra movie footage on the Blu-Ray disc version. The Blu-Ray has an interview with the directors of the Vacation film and with us.
The Truckster is also in the Cold Open for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and also on Jay Leno's Garage in one of the season finales.

Back in the early 90s a couple had a replica of the Queen family truckster . I parked beside him a many car shows in my 62 Plymouth "My leave it to Beaver car." But anyway he had it totally decked out! He didn't over look any thing, right down to aunt Edna tide to the roof the period correct luggage, the correct Kleenex box on the dashboard. It was very movie correct. I met him about 2 years ago ask him if he still had the car, he said no. He replied people bugged him all the time about the car, didn't get a minutes peace when he went places in it. If I had it I couldn't get enough attention, it would be mind blowing! I just have settle for my 62 Plymouth signed by Jerry Mathers. But anyway you have a unique piece of automotive movie history, even though it wasn't in the movie. Mine wasn't either but who's to know, let's just have fun with it! Good video!!

Here in Central Connecticut the name 'Griswold' is huge. We've got a Griswold Ct, a Griswoldville, the Griswold Inn ( my favorite restuarant), just to name a few. Drive the Truckster up to Ct. and visit your heritage! Nice job on the car!

Great job! It looks exactly like the one in the movie! That fake front gas tank on the hood could be used as some kind of storage compartment. Haha! Did you put in a garbage bag airbag? 😁

This car is parade and Autorama ready! Back in the day, metallic pea was a normal color. My dad traded our black and white chevy station wagon for a metallic pea. We took all our family vacations in that car. The back seat was folded down so my brother and I sat on a thin mat.
