I just swapped out a 650 cfm that serves three cnc machines with this unit and it works awesome. Great purchase.

Thanks for the video. I just bought this unit, well the one with the hepa filter. I work out of my 2 car garage and don’t plug into more than one tool. Thanks again.

You have earned my subscription. This is a completely educational video on this dust collection system for a small shop set up. Kudos to you and your thoroughness. In the future, if you can, I'd love to see how this DC works with a two hose/blast gate set up. I'm a shop vac set up currently but have been very interested in a bigger, beefier DC set up and this video went through it all. Thanks!

Thank you. If I ever set the shop up in a way that can use a double run, I will definitely make a video.

Greetings, You did a great job on this review and I would like to thank you for posting this. I am looking at purchasing a dust collector and I was looking at Laguna but even with the cheapest model its going to cost $600 for 1/2 of the CCFM than this Grizzly. From the performance test you shown in this video it looks like this will suit my needs as well. I am wondering what you think about the sound level and if you expand on that a little more? I think you made a good analogy on comparing it to a planer running. To me if that is that loud that seems a little high but I might still look at this. You also made a good point between Rockler Dust Right and this which is far cheaper for almost the exact same looking motor. So what do you think about it overall? sound, size etc

Overall, I love it. I am very happy with the value for money, which was important to me. longevity isn't something I can comment on until I have it for a few years, so that's an unknown for me. Another big thing is really about the systems built into your tools to funnel the dust to the hose connection. That's something that any DC will have to deal with, and will depend on your tools. This can provide the suction, but the tools need to make sure the dust is headed in the general direction somewhat. Size wise, I am not sure you can get much smaller for the same CFM, but you also have to factor in a separate cyclone, if you want one, whereas some other units that are floor standing have both on the same cart, meaning you can move it all at once, on the floor. I don't have any experience with the 650-750 CFM models that are 1hp and that sit on the floor, like from Harbor Freight. They are much smaller, but also just blow into a bag. 75% of the size of the Grizzly is just the filter and bag. The bag deflates when it is off, so you can sort of tuck stuff under it if it isn't full of a ton of dust. Make sure your ceiling is high enough as well. I forget the measurement, but I mention it in the video. Rockler also sells a wall-mount cyclone, for about $250, and it should work with any 4in port DC. If I had more wall space I would have gotten the Grizzly DC and Rockler wall-mount cyclone, if that makes sense. As for the sound, it's not as loud as the planer, but it has the same frequency, or just general tone, but not necessarily decibels. It's kind of like how you can hum quietly or loudly, or somewhere in the middle. It is still a hum, but one is louder. The Planer is louder, but a similar sounding hum. I wouldn't run my planer without ear protection, ever, but I wouldn't be upset if I had to do some work without protection on with the dust collector. I'd say it is 15-20% lower than the planer, but the planer. It also depends on how close you are going to be to it. You could probably still talk, albeit with a loud voice, over the DC. I can hear the DC, somewhat, when I am standing outside of my shop. The noise will go through a thinner wall. The planer, of course can be heard 35ft away through a wall, but the DC dies out at about 10-15ft through a wall, when I walk outside. I hope that helps.

@@MMWoodworking I appreciate the reply. So the noise makes sense now. I think I am going to be purchasing this. The issue I have for Rocker is simply they are expensive for what a person gets. The demo of the Dust Right 650 performance was disappointing to me this weekend. The eq 1250 to Grizzly is 1/2 of the cost LOL... I think I am going to build a defuser around it and leave the top open that way I can redirect the sound. This will be a nice new project for the CNC machine I think. I would like to get a dust collector but I simply do not have the room for it :( that just means I need to watch the filter and clean it more often. Oh and I noticed that they have a the 1 micron like what you have, and a .3 micron HEPA filter now. The .3 is going to be more restrictive but I also noticed they have a higher air flow on that model too. its a 15Amp vs a 12amp with a 12-3/4 cast aluminum impeller which is the same impeller that just has a tiny it more power. I am glad they thought of that in the new design.

It is hard to see but did you just cap off the 2nd port that is not being used?? Also, do you think you could use other plastic trash bags even if they hang down and are not clear?? Thanks, great video!!

Yes I did cap it off, and it came with the cap. As for the bag, I guess you could use a different bag... They are quite thick, as the volume of air being pushed is a lot, so they need to not stretch or rip, but no, the bag being clear isn't vital I guess. As long as you could feel for when it is full. The strength is what I would look for in a bag first. Well, the fit first, as it needs to be really tight, but that and the strength a close second.
