Looking for a more versatile metal cutting band saw, I ordered the Grizzly G9742. This saw uses a pivoting saw rather than a pivoting vise to accomplish miter cuts. The hydraulic control for managing the saw frame travel works well but there are some issues that you would not expect for a saw in this price range.

Slow down the down speed A LOT more. Hitting it way too hard.

Move your blade guide close to the material (adjustment toward the front of the saw frame)

The pin that holds the saw down on the base when not in use isn’t designed to support the weight of the base, along with the unbalanced load.. You’re lucky the joint didn’t crack when that happened.

Thanks for the review. I have a Jet 7X12 and have wished it angled but not needed that feature. Check that the belt setting is correct for the blade toothcount.

Bring your blade guides in, slow down your feed rate, and rotate your work piece 90° it will help with blade longevity and prevent you from stripping teeth.

Thanks for the no-frills straight forward review. It inspired me to make my own version of the down-feed control for my similar saw. I am wondering, is the down-feed speed pretty linear, or does it get progressively faster as it travels down. Thanks again 🙂

It seems like a linear feed rate.

Sir with all due respect this was a disaster of an attempt to properly use a band saw. Best of luck to you though

Vortex air cooler or use cutting oil. I personally like vortex air cooler keeps it cleaner... this will improve your cuts and longevity of your blades will increase.

Can you give an update? Have you obtained a "better" saw blade to try and see if it makes a big difference? Keep up the videos. Can't wait to see the Cub Cadet Crawler build.

Have not tried another saw blade yet. I've been busy rearranging my shop to make room for the CNC Plasma table coming in a couple months. I got a couple spare blades from Grizzly when I bought the saw, and I need to put one of them on and check those out. Also need to find a source for Lenox or other quality blades...

Having used one for many years I will say that an accurate cut is very doubtful and blade life is extended emensely by using a good cutting oil. Just my two cents... Art

For sure. Quality of the blade matters, too, and I think the blade on the saw was as cheap as they come.

@@woodandmetalshoptime8048 the blade is important. The one or 2 comes in the packages is nuts. Buy a good blade and adjust it nicly then the saw make accurate cuts. In Germany we have other brands of this saw but every one comes from the same factory in china. look at the details and adjustments for the blade.

Not sure if you have sorted out the issues with the blades or not but I have experienced the blades , they are crap blades for sure. I use Blade Serpent blades and they are toned better.

Get ya an Irwin or Lenox high speed steel blade they make a world of difference. You need to move your guides in closer to the work as well.

@@woodandmetalshoptime8048 Got mine from MSC Industrial, you might try Ebay though, probably way cheaper. As far as I know Lenox and Irwin are the same, so ones as good as the other. I have an Irwin on the saw right now, and it's been the best blade that has ever been on that saw, and I've had the saw since 1986.

It's stalling out on that flat bar because that's the wrong way to cut a flat bar in the saw! You need to stand the flat bar up, never laying down flat unless your using a hydraulic shear.

As a machinist of 30 years, you are wrong. You want as many teeth possible in contact with material in a horizontal band saw. This avoids breaking a tooth and stripping a section. Chop saws work better on edge to dissipate heat. Good luck to you
@melgross
@melgross 8 ай бұрын
@@eiserntorsphantomoftheoper2154well, it depends on the shape of the bar. You should know, as a machinist of 30 years (I’ve been doing it for 50) that you only need a few teeth in the cut. Maybe you learned incorrectly. Yes, there are times when you have to cut horizontally. But you don’t do that unless the part is too wide to stand up.

I will say, after using this saw for a couple years, it turned out better than I expected. Yeah, the build quality isn't there, but the mitering capability has turned out to be very useful. And, above all, getting GOOD blades is a game changer. I ordered some Lenox blades and they make all the difference. Would I buy it again? Maybe, if only for the mitering function and the rest of the machine is comparable to every other metal bandsaw of it's type.
