Last week we finished our tour of the Pilbara region and arrived back to Perth city.
This video is more of a technical and installation video but we reckon you'll find it super interesting all the same 😉
We install a Quickpitch Quick Ensuite privacy awning to the side of our camper. This mod is fantastic and means no more dealing with the horrible pop up privacy tents.
Thank you so much Sean at Quickpitch.
quickpitch.com.au/
John from Haus of Fabrication is a master metal worker and his skills are shown in full with this install. We can't thank him enough for helping us out.
We visit an old school mate of Leigh's to install a permanent set of access steps to our Four Wheel camper.
These steps replace our old plastic set that we've been using for 4.5 years.
These two mods are definitely game changers and will make full time life on the road far more comfortable.
If enjoy our videos and would like to support to the work we do in creating them we'd love to have you join the team by becoming a patreon and ensuring the videos and journey continue.

If you would like to support us without signing up to Patreon we do have a PayPal account.
The contributions of generous people from all over the world are what makes this possible 🙏🙏🙏

Join us as we travel the world overland, exploring the cultures and traditions of all the countries we visit.
In our Land Rover Defender camper which is our full time home we will take you rock climbing, hiking and exploring across all the continents on this planet.

I put a shower awning on my 4x4 and everyone laughed at me until I used it..definitely a game changer..👍😀 I’ve got a small 12v submersible portable shower , a collapsible tub that I put the water in and I stand in the tub so the water is on a continuous loop, ..I’ve got a “solar water bag” that I fill with water of a morning and by the afternoon the water is nice and hot..the beauty is that no gas is needed.. Nothing feels better than a refreshing shower after a long hot day in the Australian Outback ..👍😁😀

Thanks for the vid on the shower and the fabrication back stories. The workmanship on the stairs and the shower mounting brackets were next level. I'm pleased you decided to show the Perth 4x4 show footage separately - 15 to 25 min episodes are better. Longer KZfaq vids tend to have repetitious content and/or are poorly edited. Your vids are in "the goldilocks zone". Cheers Lee

A great addition to your new shower tent would be a Glinde heat exchanger to give you hot water using the wasted heat from your engine. They're made in Australia, so you should be able to get one there.

That workmanship on your new bits was impeccable. Great stuff guys. I'm not a fan of the privacy tent. Me being the 'Weight Nazi' I think they're a luxury item. We can get changed and use toilet inside camper so it's real use is for the odd shower. Happy to use the terrible pop-up ensuite on those occasions, Sally has mastered folding it up. Hi To keep the steps in place: how about attaching brackets with eye loops on each corner of the camper. Drill two holes in the step, fabricate a metall rod that can be inserted through the holes. Lock it in the brackets and voila you have a crossbar to prevent brake ins. It will also keeps the steps firmly in place when driving. Rubber gromets in the metall holes and it is rattle free. Nice videos btw, love the Australia updates. Stay safe. Lj

No doubt on the lads professionalism and execution of your rear ladder. BUT you hardly ever camp on perfectly even camp grounds so that the angle of the ladder may vary a lot. With some ground clearance underneath the bottom step that issue may be solved. Or maybe I’m just overcomplicating everything and that new steel step is just perfect. You’ll find out shortly

We have full adjustable air suspension, a recent installation. We can self adjust the vehicles level from the dashboard. If there is a gap under one leg of the step we can just put a piece of wood there 😉

I guess if they had some chain and a padlock anything is possible but they'd make a lot of noise and I'd be there quick 😉 In that very unlikely event and if it's an emergency our camper is only canvas sided. We can exit with a knife through the side walls.

Another great episode. I saw this solution now on several trucks. But i don’t get the idea. If im close to a city, or busy area or on a campground (where i have a shower) i can’t use this, if im in the middle of nowhere, no one will see me and i don’t need a shelter for showering. Please help me someone to get the idea behind this. :-)

In Australia there are thousands of campsites that are self contained. They provide no facilities but can become quite busy. This week we stayed in a camp by the beach on Western Australia's south coast. We had neighbours both sides, the camp only provides a basic long drop toilet no showers. We shower inside the privacy tent.

That step is nice ... but it's going to destroy your camper and tailgate . Vibration kills if only it could mount to something other than tailgate. Sorry to be a Debbie downer I just see it Vibrating against camper if with rubber feet or at bolt location.
@leighdearle5965
@leighdearle5965 2 жыл бұрын
It's pretty light aluminium and we've been using that tailgate as a step for all these years without issue. I replaced both of the bolts that attach to the support wires with much larger stronger bolts years ago. We're on air suspension now mate, I'm not sure I understand this vibration you speak of 😜 Hit our first serious corrugation this week since the airbag install. Let the tyres down and reduced the shocks and literally couldn't feel the corrugation 😊
