Although Caterina Nicolucci was thrilled her son was getting married, she was dreading the thought of not being able to dance with him on his special day.
Caterina has been living with the affects of Multiple Sclerosis for 29 years. Over the past 3 years, she has been attending Aim2Walk’s NeuroChangers for physical therapy and has become a part of our family. We were all very excited for her when she announced that her son Adam was getting married; however, we sensed a fear and sadness from Caterina. Although she was pleased for her son, she was dreading the moment of the mother-son dance, where dancing with her son while in a powered wheelchair seemed impossible. During the months leading up the wedding, Caterina expressed to her therapists how upset she was about her immobility, and she prayed she would be able to dance at the wedding.
I found myself in tears while she told us the story of the wedding. As she wheeled onto the dance floor, her son wheeled up next to her, handed her a rose and kissed her hand. Caterina hadn't cried all day until this special moment between her and her son. They then began to dance around the floor while their loved ones watched and gave them a standing ovation. The dance was caught on camera and Caterina is more then thrilled to share with the world the special moment she had with her son.
