I never knew that the Grosbeak would be the Boss ! He is very dominant. To see all the colourful plumage is a real treat. Could you create another puddle nearby to reduce the territorialty? :0)

Thanks for watching! Grosbeaks are quite bossy! This water comes from our geothermal heating/cooling system in our house. Whenever the heat or a/c runs, it uses uses ground water, then immediately puts it back outside, creating a little "stream" of fresh water. It is a very popular spot in the yard!

They usually show up here around May 1, but this guy showed up a little early! It was a pleasant surprise! Very cool birds!

I've always find interesting and strange birds baths. They seem to like the water splash their face/head and also their shest but don't like too much water on their back ans neck?. Also the "flapping" on the water? Seems like they want some droplets on their wings but not too much?. Very strange.

It is fascinating to see them bathe! The sound is fun too! Most of the water just rolls right off because their feathers are mostly waterproof!
