I get most of all my books from thrift stores, and yes at times if I have really been wanting a particular book and I see it in terrible condition I’ll buy it. But as soon as it gets in my hands it is mine and I cherish it and baby it like it is brand new. I feel as if I am saving it from the trash and preserving it for the future

I ordered a used “good” condition hardcover of Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy and what I got was a book where the pages looked like they were dipped in a paint bucket, the bottom of the book was as if the person let it float water while reading, and also coffee stains or whatever it is. It is just absurd how it is that hard to keep a book in good condition for some people

Some of the used books I’ve gotten, I have no idea what the person who had it last did. Often time they’re big, nice trade paperbacks with strong spines, and I swear some people open a book up and crush them down, fold them in half, etc. It drives me nuts. Occasionally I’ll get a new paperback with a really weak spine and it will crease no matter what I do, but that’s rare. I do need to get plastic sleeves for my hardcovers though. The only ones I have in sleeves are my signed books. That’s the next step. Thanks for the quality content as always-this one made me laugh

You can still ge books in mint condition at used book stores or thrift stores, just look at how somebody takes care of them, I have however turned down buying books because the cover looks beat up.

I try to keep my books perfect im from the uk and jobs are closeing down and charity shops might not take book donations any more so I dont know where I am going to dump them after I read them or what I never annotate them.

I agree Brian, nice looking books. Not true about not buying used books, as recently I found unread books in mint shape and for like $2 each (Terry Goodkind and lots of Clive Cussler paperbacks). You'll find people give unread books to Salvation Army so you jump at the chance of owning them. Man that hurts seeing you killing your own book like that. :(

I feel the frustration. Although most of my books are from used bookstores, the new ones still look as new even when read. Don't torture your books people.

Hilarious video! I once saw a guy on the train reading a glossy trade paperback comic while eating a greasy packet of some kind of snack. I wanted to grab it off him and smack him round the head with it.

I swear man! You really gotta hunt for used books at these store that are practically unread, because for some reason everyone wants to fold over the whole half of the book and read it one page at a time in one hand and RUINS the spine for any future readers. One of my biggest pet peeves. Also dying at the ice cream and sphagetti xD

I like to go to used bookstores, thrift stores, antique malls, etc., on the hunt for interesting books, like first edition copies or something that's been on my radar for a while. Sometimes even an extra copy of a book I have that I make my "reading" copy. And, yes, you see many books looking like they've been handled by animals. I just don't know how they get in such awful condition. And it's because of this that I won't let anyone borrow any of my books to read. And when my husband decides he wants to read something on my shelves, I always ask him to wash his hands first. LMAO. I'm paranoid that someone's going to damage them somehow.

Those poor books. I'm not great with my books I must unfortunately say. I read during breaks at a very greasy and dirty factory, and one foul movement and the book gets some grime on the pages. I've also broken the spine here and there. I must apologize and if I have to go to book jail, than book jail I go.

I broke the spine on a book I was trying so hard not too, and after that I said phuck it and just start folding the book in half and holding it one handed. Pouring coffee on to highlight a passage. Left it in a hot car until the glue melted, misplaced the cover and just had to stick loose pages in an old folder from high school, and read pages one by one, wadding them into ball after I finished and tossing them into an old tub of military grade creamed corn. When I was done, I traded it in at a used bookstore.
