51:22 Dean points out Musashi envisioning death by all methods imaginable. This "meditation on death" is actually from Hagakure and not from Musashi: "The Way of the Samurai is found in death.Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day, when one’s body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears, and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one’s master. And every day, without fail, one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai." - Hagakure Hagakure gives an idealized shape to the time and ways of samurai, full of tiny pieces of wisdom, sometimes small, sometimes large. It's a record / collection of things said and thought by the "warriors of old" and other people. Tons of ancient folk wisdom. Hopefully this intrigues at least some one.

I find when I'm grinding away at something, and I could be laser focused on it for a long time, I might start thinking, "what's a better way to do this?" or "anything I could do to bring better results?", I when I am in that mood, start thinking when I get bored and then take a break. Like what they mention at the beginning, let your mind wander and daydream. That's when I get good ideas come through and I apply them, and go back in to my motivated, laser focused state with more confidence that I have something that has made me more competent. Peace Out!

I remember wresting as a kid and in high school the butterflies pre match would absolutely destroy me and my performance… then as an adult competing in tae Kwon do fighting there were zero butterflies or nerves pre fight. I was fully confident in my training and abilities and was ready to perform. I think the difference was security vs insecurity. I was insecure as a kid. As an adult, I knew I had been through things and pushed myself to places that my opponents would never dare to go. And that was my confidence right there… I knew I had ran the path solo and I was ready to drag all of my opponents to that deep dark place on that mountain where no man but me had ever been… and that’s what i did. I competed with a smile on my face, love in my heart and the fire in my eyes absolutely destroying everyone. Mostly by KO….

I wish this podcast was up when I was in highschool. My senior year I was wrestling the champion match in league. I beat the guy the day before, badly, in a duals match so we can all be seeded. I was extremely explosive and had stamina for days, which you didn't see in my weight class (189), but I weighed 180lbs. I was feeling the pressure, everyone was talking like I already won. I couldn't relax and against my coaches wishes warmed up for 2 hours. I lost, badly. Spent the whole time trying to fight off my back. The next time I wrestled that kid I beat him to move on to the championship match in division.

So I'm watching this video, I sit down on the toilet and while this video is playing, open Instagram, a completely random account I don't follow, as they are talking about that arm submission he was calm and defending, that video is playing on Instagram. Lol long story, pointless but neat.

Podcasts used to be ABOUT an actual topic, useful and actionable info. Seems these days it's more of a 'catch-up', people telling stories, shooting the shit. Perhaps 10 mins of good info in a 60 min segment. Sure I don't have to listen. But when the title says "How To Have Max Focus Through Stressful Situations" I expect to hear a lot of stuff about that. Not trips down memory lane.
