The Baobab seeds that Tom sent me arrive, and I begin the germination process!
Jakob goes on a Baobab seed collection trip and is going to send me some seeds also!
I show all my bonsai that were started from seed to show how they have progressed over time.
Today's update is my Bayberry or Wax Myrtle (Morella cerifera) forest that I put together this year.

My key-lime tree, and my poinsettia pepper and habaneros, at least, were grown from seed. It just feels nice to know you saw its whole life. :)

Nice trees👌 I want to grow some from seeds too, so I'm collecting seeds around my neighborhood. I think now my neighbors see me as a weirdo 🙃 Thanks for the video Mr. Saunders!

I feel you. Be glad you're not a salvager, my neighbors have asked me if I'm ok or need "help" since I habitually grab broken electronics and metal trinkets. Sometimes I don't even notice, I get home and find random metal gears and wires in my hand or pocket.

WOW! I am so impressed by the number of bonsai trees that you have grown from seed. That's quite an accomplishment! Like the Myrtle forest. Fantastic idea to add a bear in the planting.

This video was fantastic! I did start some trees from seed. They are so cute! I didn't realize you had so many. You see a clip here and there in you videos of you starting seeds, but it's not until you put them all together that you see a count. Puts it in perspective. The bloopers... ha! I've been that tongue tied... :D

One trick for baobab. Once all the leaves have fallen off during fall. Dont water at all until spring when the buds start to swell. Avoid exposure to sub zero temps. Water according to amount of foliage. If the seeds dont swell ul need to scarify them

I have 4 baobab trees growing from seed in an east facing window in rainy Ireland. I germinated 5, and one died. Surprisingly, these and delonix regia are some of the easiest seeds I have germinated. I soaked them and scarified them with a metal file and germinated them in the airing cupboard, within 5 days they were ready to pot up. They are growing pretty slow though, but I hope to set up some lights and grow one in a terrarium. If they survive in my Irish window......they should do great in a terrarium...........famous last words eh? 😮

Hey Nigel, awesome video of all the trees from seeds. Looks like the sugar pine and jack pine seedlings I had sprouted have not made it, going to try again, the summer heat here was just too much I suppose, or the soil mixture wasn't right, I'm not really sure what happened. Thanks for the updates on your seedlings Nigel.

I can't help but to start seeds. I sometimes feel like it's all for nothing. That I'm never going to be able to see them get big and never get to enjoy them. But I'll only be turning 37 this year so I may get to enjoy a couple of them.

Nigel, speaking of growing bonsai from seed, have you ever attempted bonsai with an avocado? I feel like you’re the most adventurous and experimental of the experienced bonsai growers on here, so I’d love to know your take on it! (Or why you don’t think it’s worth it!)

At first year dont leave it without water.. Baobabs that have just germinated need to get water regularly because they cannot yet store it in their trunk, branches and roots as large baobabs do.

Hi Nigel, I have been told that seedlings, e.g. my native maple, need to go into the ground for a couple of years in order to become trees with good nebari. In a pot they would remain only sticks in a pot, not become trees. You seem to agree. Many of your trees were in the ground for some years. Any tips for people who live in the city with just a balcony? Very big pot? How big? Or better not start from seeds at all but rather collect older trees?

I want to plant this tree in my backyard; how far should I place it from my house? Can this tree be planted in a location with heavy rainfall? Does the trunk have water resistance? Will the tree trunk perish if it is buried in water?

How long do you wait before putting your seedlings in the outside? ( I don’t have a greenhouse) especially in summer . How many hours of direct sun and heat they can handle? Today will be 33C and my seedlins are about 2-3 weeks old
