Thanks for your advice...I have 2 lemon and 2 lime trees in containers here in Baltimore for the first time...the trees gave a small crop of delicious fruit...I grew up in SoCal so citrus is in my blood...the trees will be moved indoors soon and I am arming myself with as much information as possible to keep my beautiful trees alive through the winter.

my lime tree is in container. If it gets lower than 30F several days in a row, I cover it up and pull closer to the house. If several days in the low 20, I bring it inside. If I left it outside in low 20 several days, covered it up, the branches still die back and come back from the roots in the spring.

Thanks for the advice, I bought a lime tree/bush from home Depot in southern New Mexico because I do bonsai and want to turn it into a bonsai. For the first month the tree did nothing. Until I realized it was double packed in plastic containers and had poor drainage. I improved the drainage then fertilized with a Japanese fish fertilizer and I've seen an explosion of flowers and new growth. I hope the flowers will turn into limes.

I live in Houston, Tx. Do you think it’s possible to grow western red cedars or coastal redwoods in the south? I’ve tried growing some but have died, perhaps from overwatering causing root rot. I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thank you so much, I wish you the best.

Hi: I'm in Napa, CA and have three Bearss limes, a Cara Cara, one other orange tree, and a Rangpur lime all in pots. Ages range from three to five years old. However, only the Rangpur gives decent fruit. One of the Bearss gives nothing while the other two give terrible fruit. Worse yet, they have thick skins and seeds (Bearss are supposed to be seedless, right?). I got good green and sweet fruit only in the first year. I do not believe this to be from greening either. Could they have cross-pollinated? I'm totally at a loss to explain this phenomenon. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

citrus normally flower or not during the freeze, right? Unless, it's a late freeze into March, by which, if there are any fruits, they would be only just developed and dropped off by the freeze. I have never seen fully developed citrus fruits remained from previous year.

I’ve got a citrus that I have had the hardest time with. It’s at my parents’ place on Catalina Island. I’ve been battling chlorosis with this poor thing for about 12 years (ever since it was put into the ground). It’s a key lime. It appears to be a magnesium deficiency, and I wouldn’t be surprised, since the soil here is quite calcarious. The soil PH is between 7 and 8, and the water is quite hard here as well. I’ve tried sulfur prills, adding peat to the soil, adding orchid bark as a deep mulch, and iron sulfate, all only with short-term gains/results. I just tried to dig it up to pot it, yesterday, since it’s not all that large, but found 2 - 1” roots about a foot deep in the soil and decided to leave it for now. Any suggestions? If it were mine - I would have dug it up anyways, but since there is some sentimental value, I’m not sure what to do. It’s sad to see it barely survive, and not really thrive. It does put out fruit, by the way, though not much, and all of the leaves are at least half yellow.
@qctropicals
@qctropicals Жыл бұрын
geez buddy, it seems you tried every possible way to kill this poor plant. Please do the following: 1- stop adding junk to the soil unless it's water. 2-Do not dig up further, you literally caused more damage than good. Your plant will now take about a year to recover from the damage you caused.3- send me a few pics to info@queencreektropicals.com along with as much info as you can such as: watering schedule, sun exposure, etc ,etc. I'll assess and make a vid about it.
@MS-fx5yf
@MS-fx5yf Жыл бұрын
To kill it? Um… I think maybe you misunderstood. It is when I make the changes to the soil/add supplements that the tree does well, but the good changes the tree shows are short lived, since I’m not here often to maintain it. The tree does poorly, and looks terrible if I do as you recommend by only watering it… which is why I was going to pull it.
@qctropicals
@qctropicals Жыл бұрын
@@MS-fx5yf 95% of issues with citrus plants can be fixed with proper water and/or sun light. Regardless of what you do at this point, your tree needs time to recover. This process will take over a year easily. Unfortunately, there is no magical juice to add to the soil to bring your tree back faster. All you need at this point is time and patience. I have citrus growing is clay 8.4 ph no issues. Also using hard city water. Citrus trees have deep roots, if they don't get deep water, they won't grow. They also do not grow in the shade. Gardening is simple, please stop adding all kinds of stuff to the soil as all you're doing is stressing the tree even more.
