@@thriveandgrowgardens I rent a house just south of Reid Park, and am turning the entire property into a food forest! I have Moringa Trees, Fig Trees, and Apple Trees started, and coming along nicely. I have tree collards and tree kale seeds on order. We have a lot of green onions all over the place, and lots of flowers. I have Aloe Vera and Borage for that, and other flowers planted and coming soon...I hope. I think the funniest thing going on here is the Luffa Gourd plant that is growing up a palm tree, and is all in the top of it now. LOL I must say, I am truly enjoying this year's monsoon rain season.

Nice looking amaranths. I grow them year round in Florida(A. Crunetus) both for leaves/ seeds and as ornamentals. They need a bit of protection from our few winter frosts. and get rather buggy in our hot,humid mid- summer months. I grow them in large shallow flats for midi- greens( 5-8" tall) interspersed with mustard greens. You're right about thinning them out for better growth. Enjoyed this video with your helpful and pleasant presentation. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing a bit about your experience, Howard! I am glad you enjoyed the video. I like your strategy of growing them as micro-greens mixed with other greens. Yum!

So what are your recommendations for spacing
@sarahhall5714
@sarahhall5714 2 жыл бұрын
He says 9 per sq ft. Did foresters love over-planting to keep the ground cool and moist and chop and drop available.

Downloaded your suggestion. Love your work! I wanted to mention it looks like you said the value of a square foot is a buck sixty annually but I did the math for that sentence and it looks like you meant monthly. Don't want a mistype to turn anyone off to something so wonderful. Its near the end of the pdf.

I'm in Ohio. Do I plant amaranthus in the spring from seed or start in the cold season before, fall-winter?
@thriveandgrowgardens
@thriveandgrowgardens 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy! Sorry I just saw your comment. Amaranth does well in warm weather so more likely spring-early summer in your area.

I scattered some red garnet amaranth in a flower bed this spring. What variety is in the video?
@thriveandgrowgardens
@thriveandgrowgardens 3 жыл бұрын
That's great! I hope it grows well for you. The variety in the video is called Mano De Obispo. It is from an organization in Tucson Arizona called Native Seed SEARCH. They preserve and propagate heirloom varieties native or well adapted to our desert region.

Can we pot them?

I don't see any reason not to! I would lean towards larger pots, 18" or larger if you are going to let them grow to maturity.
