Here's the third update for 2017 to my Apple Trees grown from seeds series from seeds out of store bought Gala Apples! They are now 18 months old as they were sown on 1/1/16. Since the last update, they have really fattened up their trunks, added some height and produced more foliage.
Two of them had their lower few inches of their trunks gnawed at by rabbits but they seem to be OK. I just fertilized them a few weeks ago so it appears as though they are responding well to that.
I don't plan on pruning them at all this year until January next year when I start to shape the canopies.
I plan on keeping you all updated on their progress at least monthly over the 2017 growing season!
Here is the entire series from episode 1:
• Apple Trees from Seed
I hope you are enjoying the journey along with me!

nice apple! I found some wild apple trees growing on the side of the road in the mountains on the truckee river near the California Nevada border, one had very nice yellow apples and I collected them and grew the seeds, I planted them all over the yard.

First tree you showed I would air-layer it from where the bites are and basically start it over because it looks like the bark is all gone around the bottom which later in it life will be weaker and have a better chance of falling over breaking where that damage is. just a suggestion.

@RobBackyardGardenerr

FoShoScience I mix 1 Tbsp of liquid soap for every 1/4 gallon of water. You can also add 1 tsp of Neem oil for that as well.

If I were you, I would do some research on how to repair cambium in trees. I had the same issue with my apple tree(our chickens ate a ring completely around it-girdling the tree) so I looked up if a tree could survive like that, and doubted it would, in the brutal Texas heat. I made about 3 bridge grafts to the tree, and by the next year, you couldn't even see where the repair was made. It soon grew to a heavy producing tree, with no health problems. Here is a website detailing how to make the repair: www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/how-to-fix-girdled-trees.htm
