Bok choy is a cool weather plant. The plants can be ready to harvest in 2 months. It's a biennial plant so it will bear seeds the second year. Watch this video to see how to grow bok choy.

Great instructional video. I planted bok choy for the first time. I planted seed directly in my garden soil. It started growing nicely however it grew thin and tall. They never got thick enough to consider harvesting and eating. What did I do wrong? I was expecting a thick plant like the bok chop in the grocery store.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge❤️. I live in northeast Florida in zone 9a to 8b and wanted to know if you think I should wait to start seedlings or if now would be ok. I will have a few light frosts before mid February when it starts to warm up. My cabbages and romain lettuce are growing nicely but I planted those as seedlings about 1 month ago. Will bok choy be similar in its cold hardiness to cabbage and lettuce?

Hi, someone, on another channel asked "where do you buy the seed?" Since no one else answered I did. But my comment was not allowed. So I am posting it here: "I will answer, since no one else did. This is what happened: I saw one of those videos on YT that teach how to grow veggies from supermarket scraps. I tried green onions (it worked). I tried other veggies..it did not work. I tried baby BOK choi. It grew, but the leaves were small. How disappointing! I forgot about it, but I still watered it once in a while. Guess what happened next? It went into seed. Beautiful little yellow flowers produced hundreds of seeds! Even if they don't grow in full. you still get MICROGREENS. This year, I just kept the (root) end of a regular size supermarket bok choi and planted, and I have a forest of bok choi!. If you want to try it, cut 2 inches (root end) bok choi and put it in a pot with fertile soil. Water often, but not so much you make it rot. Observe it and adjust accordingly." PS It may take up to 4 months to develop seed.
