I am in the Tampa Florida area. We have been eating fruit through July off our Mexicola tree. I have 5 left for August. We have been hot all summer- upper 90s.

Excellent… Your weather is crazy compared to California. I say that because when temps reach 90f here, it’s quite comfortable as our humidity is low. In Florida we run for the AC if temps are in upper 70’s with high dewpoint.

I tried my mexicola Grande today and it was so good much nuttier and oily, richer tasting than a store bought hass, dense and creamIer than a hass.

Excellent video. It reminded me of a visit to Cuenca Ecuador when I got my first taste of Mexicola avocado (they called them Guatemala avocado). I was at a relative's party when a neighbor came over with what looked like two metal trash can lids stacked high with these tiny avocadoes. I wasn't sure what to make of them when the neighbor said just eat them skin and all. I was so surprised by the shiny thin skin that tasted like anise, buttery insides with quite a large seed. Each was just a couple bites and done. I ate about a dozen of them that day, which would probably equal one good sized Grande. Can't wait to have them again some day.

Hi Jeff Thanks for sharing your work I am in the north of Spain and here I investigate new varieties of avocado with interesting genetics and recently I discovered a very interesting hybrid avocado, on the outside it was similar to Bacon or the strong one, but inside it had a very yellow flesh, and I was surprised by the Magnificent flavor of this meat, it tasted much better than a Hass, and I related that flavor so good and of background nuances, to that yellow color of its meat, in Europe I have never seen an avocado with this color of meat, it is also quite resistant to cold, I am very excited about it, I will try to clone it a greeting from Spain

I managed to bring back a seed from my trip to Portugal last week that I intend to germinate. It had similar characteristics - large, smooth skin, and green when ripe. I hope it provides a sturdy rootstock that I can graft mexicola or GEM variety in the new year.

I'm surprised at the size of the seed of the mexicola. I really think the mexicola grande is beautiful. Are they dense creamy fruited? I prefer the dense creamy avocados over the "wet" large Florida avocados.

Get the GEM, Reed, Lamb or Gwen. All these are smaller trees that produce great tasting avocados. You can also control the size of a tree by pruning it.

Is there anyway I can buy some of those small mexicola seeds. I have a mexicola grande. But I’ve never seen avocados that small, plus they ripen a bit earlier. I’m located in zone 8-9, the coastal area is 9 and a bit inland is 8b- 8a. The most popular avocado I’ve seen growing in the area is Lila. But I’ve been trying to get my hands on a fantastic avocado. And I just ran into this video and that small mexicola looks great! I like snack sized fruits like the oak leaf papaya

The smaller the fruits are the stronger flavor and the larger the fruits are the lesser flavor. In nature usually organic and none GMO fruits/veggies are packaged with flavors because they are smaller and flavor is concentrated in that smaller side vs GMO makes larger crops but have very little taste because the flavor has to distribute to the larger much bigger volume rather than focus on small volumes. Just like a migit tends to have hotter temper than a large size person. Dynamite comes in small package, now you get my point 😂😂😂
