Thanks Greg. I have Mexicola Grande on my multi grafted tree along with Hass & Fuerte.

It's not often you recognize the exact people who make a change in your life which becomes part of your history. You, Mr. Greg Alder, are unique among all the KZfaqrs I've watched and have done that for me. Without tasting, which I DON'T RECOMMEND, I selected two avocado trees based on a Mexican grower's recommendation. One was Pinkerton and the other, the Mexicola. I tried to explain what I was looking for was taste, as I consider most "Florida" designed cultivars as tasteless. He said those two. Since watching all of your taste testings like this one, I've come to realize I NEED a HAAS. The Fuerte, which I wanted badly, won't live in Florida. Too many reports of people giving up on it here. I didn't know until your video how small the Mex is! However, I'm here to report mine is 15' tall and fruiting in only 18 months from a tree 2' tall. They grow! The pinkerton is actually taller but, without fruit. Still, I need the buttery richness of Haas as well and would be poorer in years to come not having your assistant discovering this. Thank you!

I bought my Mexicola from a Buena Park Nursery last Aug after the 115 heat wave killed my just planted Reed. Not sure whether it's a Grande or not. The plant was well bushed and about 4-1/2 feet tall. Now it's December and it is budding already. So after watching this video, I'm looking forward to my first Mexicola. Thank you for your wealth of explanation of traits.

We have a mexicola tree I planted three years ago. It is about 6.5 feet tall. It gave up about two hundred fruit this year. I am fighting the squirrels for ownership. We are near Tampa, Florida.

Beautiful just gorgeous looking flesh. Can we ripen Mexicola the same way we do with Hass by placing them in the frig and ripen in two weeks or they must be ripened on the tree?

Thanks for doing a profile on Mexicola, we struggle to find a lot of info on it. We got ours at a nursery a few weeks before the 2018 heat wave and it barely survived. We had it in a tree box and it was about 4ft in fall 2019 when we moved. The landscapers planted it for us and installed drip irrigation. It’s been about 17mos in the ground and is over 8ft tall! We are just getting our first blossoms so I’m hoping to see fruit this year. The branches seem to be getting a little “curvy”. Is that normal?

I know a wine master in Napa Valley who is from Guatemala who says Mexicola is the best avocado there is!

Hi Greg. I absolutely love your videos, it’s helped me a lot selecting varieties to grow. Do you know if the Mexicola Grande is pretty much the same but just bigger fruit? Or is it different again?

How big will the tree get I’m in San Antonio Texas and trying to decide where to plant because my southern protection is limited I’m outside county limits in a 1/2 ac. Where the side of my house is the only covered area that I’ve started a microclimate the rest of property is exposed to N.&NE wind and cold where I have the majority of my stone fruits unfortunately that’s also where the deer jump my fence which have attacked my persimmons and apple trees. Lila is suppose to be very cold hardy I just have to know just how big they will get so I can designate. This year (January)our grocery market HEB had 3gallon mexicola tree about 3 feet talll without pot about3/4 in circumference for sale which I had never seen here before so I grabbed it much to my surprise it’s flowering I think I’m suppose to remove the flowers which I’m going to because I want to put it in ground this week just waiting to see if we have a late freeze before I take a chance. My queen tree is even thinner about 1/2 in thick 2ft tall also flowering but that one needs more protection so that definitely going next to my house next to my brogdon & Lila. Ok I’m rambling already 😊 thank you for such informative videos we can all put to use

Do you know if a Poncho will flower at the same time as a Mexicola?

Greg thanks for latest profile. I just signed up for your blog. Can you do an Ettinger profile? I picked one up in 5 gallon a few days ago. I don’t know much other than from Israel and good enough to be grown commercially. BTW how you and the trees holding up with the current heat wave? Right now Labor Day 102 in San Jose and we hit 105 yesterday. Been out most of day hosing down the trees and keeping ground saturated. Luckily heat trending down next few days. Quite a bit of the tender new leaves getting burned on a bunch of young (2-3 yrs) trees. Very frustrating!

Thank you so much for this review, Greg. We live in Santa Clarita and have a Mexicola that was planted from a 5 gallon pot two years ago. It is growing quite well and has very tropical looking beautiful leaves but has not blossomed or had any fruit yet. I think it's just trying to get established. Can't wait to taste them ourselves. Our kids love avocado toast. We also planted a GEM avocado at the same time. They are both doing great but so far no fruit. Do you know if there are any fruit stands or Farmers Markets Southern California where you can buy Mexicola fruit when in season? We are not far from Oxnard and Ventura and I'll bet somebody over there is growing these that we haven't seen any at the fruit stands.

Thanks for the review, Greg. I was recently given a few Mexicola from La Habra Heights. I am really not a fan : / of these, but I also wonder if they were not quite ready. The skin was more green than purple when picked, but they did ripen within a week as purple. I would not describe them as oily or creamy.

Is the taste of Mexicola grande similar?

Do you have an exporting license to sell mexicola seeds or scions etc to Australia? I so want to have this variety but I can’t buy it here in Australia. It’s ridiculous that it’s not here in the nurseries especially down south where it’s colder and we need Mexican varieties like Mexicola.

Y have avocado in egg format, what specie is this?

my newly planted mexicola tree has all the leaves with brown tips. the new leaves stay small and have brown tips too. is there something i can do to help it? thanks
