Edible mushrooms are consumed for their nutritional value and occasionally for their supposed medicinal value, They can be collected from the wild, however. Care should be taken as some mushrooms are extremely poisonous. A much safer way is to buy cultivated mushrooms from your local market, but this can be very costly. There is a much easier and cheaper way. That’s to grow your own. Today I am going to show you how I am growing mushrooms on logs that will provide you with fresh mushrooms for up to 7 years. Can i use clay if i didnt have wax or somenthing other?

@@vasabi5135 no. The wax is used as a seal to prevent moisture escaping the log. Clay is porous and would absorb it.

I live in London but I am originally from Romania , we usually have an abundance of whild mushrooms in our forests and they are free to pick but here in London are very rare and usually very expensive so this is something to look forward to ,thank you for this video 🙏 and Happy New Year 🍾🎉

Yeah we ruined the soil in London decades ago, most green areas are public parks, tended regularly and the commons were cared for badly with cheap pestercides etc, the outskirts of London get better, Surrey isn't bad

Cheers for this, I have been researching "caterpillar mushroom cultivation" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Heenyan Mushroom Organifiction - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got amazing results with it.

A friend of our family grows champions (Agaricus campestris) on his lawn in his garden. This type grows wild in nature on grassland, meadows, parks and is delicious. How? He once found that mushroom, made 100% sure it is the eatable one. This is very important. There are toxic "family members" that look familiar. Then he "milled" the mushrooms hat/cap with some water in a kitchen blender. This fluid was spread on the lawn with a watering can. Waited. This mushroom "eats" grass cuts. In late summer and autumn It looks nice. Food 4-3 on an unused peace of land. With this simple method everybody easy can generate spores from most mushrooms. Kitchen blender and cotton swab.

Pembrokeshire, judging by your accent you're not too far away which gives me confidence that everything will work in my garden. Never had better veg than this year despite the weather and i think a lot of that is down to you, never going to have potatoes in the ground, everyone was shocked when i showed them the potatoes i had out of one container! @@simplifygardening I'm really not sure what has caused the sink hole, sometimes, heavy weight on soft soil can cause it to collapse, perhaps the weight of the wood chips and trucks? But, rocks tend to erode as acidic water passes through them. When rainwater passes through decaying plant debris, it tends to become more acidic. Over a period of time, overlying sediments collapse and a sinkhole develops. Or, perhaps any number of reasons. I feel awful for them, and hope the collapse stops, and the hole can be repaired.

We took a 1/8 acre garden made a u shaped path with wood chips. Then a dug the drirt added wood chips under. So yes hugelculture. Then on out side we put the branches from poplar trees, soft wood, around the edge and added wood chips with king strifaria spawn.

Charleston SC!! I have Turkey Tails, Reishi and Oyster growing Naturally in the middle of the city in my back yard!! I have been cultivating the Turkey Tails to grow abundantly... doh!!

Thank you :) I am going to try to grow in every method as a vegetarian I need a meat substitute. Mushrooms is great also off grid but also sales when necessary. I'm in South Wales :)

Hi Tony I’m from south western India and I’ve just inoculated my first mango log with oyster mushroom spawn. Hoping to do many more with shiitake...I also grow in monotubs and plastic buckets

Yeah they will lie dormant through the winter growing slowly and then in spring fly off

Oh you should Jeff, It takes a while to get going especially in colder climates like Canada but when it does you will reap 7 years of harvests

Great video. Thanks. Got some year old Shiitake and Oyster logs, and starting to attempt sawdust bags too. Definitely keen on the concept of using logs, as opposed to disposable plastics though. Looking forwards to getting a flush of fruiting soon!

South Hampshire UK. I am currently growing Lions mane on Elder logs and chestnut mushrooms in compost. I am finding the hot weather a challenge this year and I am sharing the chestnut mushrooms with the slugs arrgh thank you for an informative video.

Watching from Almeria, Spain. We'll be using your instructions from this video this week to grow Reishi and Lion's Mane. We'll be using Holm Oak for the logs. It's our first time attempting to grow mushrooms, and given that this is essentially a desert region, we are hoping that we have success! Thanks for providing such detailed instructions! :-)
