Heya peter - it's a 'Deluxe Express Drill Tool' which is permanently attached to a converted angle grinder - we got it from this mob, and it's great :) - www.fieldforest.net/product/tool-guide-use-comparison-maintenance/tool-guide-use-comparison-maintenance - you can also get special mushroom drill bits that go on drills (search on 'mushroom drill bit') but it's a slower process - depends what scale you're drilling logs at, I guess :) - best of luck!

What other mushrooms do you recommend growing in logs besides shiitake

There's a range of suggestions in this videos resources, but our top picks other than shiitake would be turkeytail, piopinnos and enokitake :)

thanks love your videos they are so well produced and thought out. D you need to soak the logs before you do anything? what if your area doesnt experience much rain over summer? and how long between sotring them in your yard and putting them out to fruit or is there a sign when to start putting them out? : )

You will need to wait for 2 summers (18 months from inoculation) to pass before your logs are ready to be put out for fruiting. If your area doesn't get much rainfall you can keep them moist with a hose. In terms of soaking, this can be done to trigger fruiting before stacking the logs for fruiting (it mimics a heavy rainfall) - to do this you would soak the logs for 12 - 24 hrs in cool fresh water, another way to trigger the fruiting is to hit the logs with a hammer (this mimics the free falling over/branch falling off a tree)
