You guys are the sweetest couple EVER! I've always been so curious about the Amish, having been born in a mennonite community myself. My family left it when I was only 2 so I know nothing of that life. I love your faith and passion to share Jesus! Please keep making videos!

I watched your video at the auction for the school. Near the end of the video, Joas was showing a spreadsheet for the work assignments. I started wondering how you and your family have become so comfortable with technology in the short time between your life as old order Amish and today. From Priscilla's fashion and decorating skills to Joas's skills with modern milling and construction equipment, you are very modern. I mean that in a complimentary sense, not a derogatory sense. I grew up in a seven child home with one bedroom. My parents got the bedroom. The children slept anywhere they could find a bare spot. We had an outhouse, water, but no hot water; and my mother always made my shirts. I got a new pair of Levi blue jeans every year as my Christmas present. It was a great life and it was the result of economic poverty. Your similar lives resulted from religious choice. I appreciate both. Irregardless of how we grew up, we arrived at the same place in life. I accepted Christ at the age of eight and was baptized at twelve. I regard your videos as an evangelical ministry. Keep up the good work. God bless you and your family.

I think it’s so important to share with others that although it might not be comfortable, we could all survive without many of the conveniences we currently have. I appreciate your family values and your sharing them on your channel. I grew up on a working dairy farm and my Dad also worked outside of the farm at another full-time job, so I understand being raised with a strong work ethic. It didn’t hurt me whatsoever.

I am always interested in what you share with us. I have been with you since before you had 500 subscribers and I do agree in that you keep getting better and better. I truly do enjoy hearing about your former days as well as where your life has taken you now. It’s history and I do agree that we are in very scary times but with God we will survive one way or the other. With 13+000 subscribers I would say I’m not alone in my interest in Montana’s Haven. I so enjoyed the Christmas gatherings and the singing, oh how it made me joy filled and happy just listening to your voices in music. I am enjoying your channel and enjoyed this video. I think you really hit into some truth in that, because you have lived without things like cars and electricity, you appreciate them each time that you use them now. We all need to remember that our ancestors were much the same--even if not Amish, etc. Both of my parents grew up very poor. My Mom's family had a farm and her Dad was also a coal miner, but there were 10 children, so the money had to go a long way. They did however fare better than some who had 'gone to town' to live because they lived on a farm....big gardens, preserved goods, beef, hogs, chicken, etc. My Mom's family didn't get electricity in their home until probably the 1950's. My Mom remembers well using coal oil lamps, out houses, and my Grandma cooked on a wood stove even while I was growing up. (Someone bought her an electric range, but she rarely used it.) My Dad's family was similar, but they had 'moved to town' and things were harder for them during the Depression years and other times. Grandpa was also a coal miner (we're from WV) and he and Grandma raised a garden and preserved food...but it didn't provide as much as the farm (other grandparents) did. Dad was raised cold, hungry, and going without at times. I think we all need to talk to our elders, read books, etc. and remember every day how fortunate we are to have the choice and ability to flip a light switch or jump into a warm car to go places. I think where we get into sin with 'worldly' things is when we develop a growing hunger for more, faster, bigger, better--never being satisfied. We need to be grateful. Our family 'went frugal' in 2012 and it's taught me to be very thankful for what we have--meager that it might seem to some. I drive a 2005 vehicle in good condition and I am very grateful every time I ride somewhere in it. It's not the fanciest thing on wheels, lol....but I don't have a 'fancy' payment due each month either. :) I very much appreciate that your family is mindful of and grateful for the conveniences that you enjoy. We should all take a note on that. God bless you all and thank you for sharing your life!

Thank you for sharing! I like the spirit you spoke from while recounting your experiences. I'd seen the title come up often in suggestions but never clicked on it because most similar videos are not presented in love as you did, but more in a spirit of tearing down and discrediting, of focusing on a narrow version of the strictest or most harmful families & communities - which is not even an accurate portrayal as there are variations among all people & families of various same cultures. You said it perfectly when you mentioned you both grew up in safe families. I think you respectfully & accurately explained that. God Bless!

You are a blessing in my life listening to your youthful life. I grew up as a weekend farm girl and my grandparents had no electricity, indoor plumbing. My grandparents did have a propane fridge/stove. We had to wash dishes on the wood stove. My childhood was interesting and fun on the farm. In the winter time we scraped off the top layer of snow and put it in the metal drum in the house. This was the late 70's early 80's. God bless your family! 💙💜

Thanks for this video. It's fun hearing you reminisce and brought a lot of memories back. We feel that there was a lot of good ways of life in the Amish. For me the community and self sustainable life style is what I like. Thanks for all you share. I live in California and was raised a little like you and in Amish country. I love your family and was raised too without a TV which I am thankful for. I enjoy all you share so much. Thanks,

i truly believe if the Amish people would take the direction you have gone, fewer young Amish people would leave the faith. Y ou are the prime example that you can change and God will bless abundantly.

Ok I’m just saying.......I LOVE THE AMISH!!! We visit several communities EVERY year and have learned soooo much from them ( in the area of farming) My heart saddens when I see people leave the Amish just like when people leave our denomination for an easier way. I’m seeing more and more good folks looking more and more like any other people and not holding to the Word of God. I’m not judging ... the Word does that... I even question myself sometimes and try to keep anything worldly out of my life so I’m not enticed! Having said all that, i can hear the Amish accent in Priscilla’s voice, but Joas is still Amish!!!!!😃 Love you guys and your home and family!! Keep studying the scriptures... they are full of direction!!!
