@@beritbunny I am not doing well with it. The stalks are heavy and two have snapped (one or two very small fruit on them). I just don't think that I am taking the time to do it right, but between work and responsibilities, Not much left :) Anyway, I am going back to just letting them be this year and may try again next year. Our season in the NW is too short to make mistakes and recover. I do enjoy your videos, though. Thank you :)

@@lyndao8300 thanks for letting me hear about your progress, Lynda! As a heads up, I’m just an amateur gardener-it’s my first year having some plants, 2/3 are in containers, 1/3 are in my neighbor’s beds-he kindly loaned me a little space. Anyway, I’m just another viewer who read your comment moment some time ago, then happened to read it again (guess I was re-watching the video because of the topic.) I was curious how it was going for you, especially since you have such a long history in the hobby-so I thought I’d inquire. I’m not Green T., though. But he can see our conversation. We also experienced some setbacks; I feel excited for next year about some points already!!
@lyndao8300

@@beritbunny I am also an amateur. Years of growing does not make you an expert! LOL. Every year I try something new. Every year I have a fail. Took 15 years to learn how to grow corn. Ha. I have a larger garden now, 50'x50', so I have lots of room for the regulars and the ability to try new things. This particular method didn't really work for me as I don't have a lot of time spend in the garden and I have to use that time wisely. My stalks kept breaking, and I live in the NW, so my season is unforgiving. I am back to growing squash the regular old, leave alone way. Tips that I have for containers? Tomatoes need a lot of water in containers or you get blossom end rot or something that looks like it. Fine line, though. Too much water is bad. You learn to feel it. I never learned that so my tomatoes go in the ground. I have tried container cukes and been slightly successful with those. Corn likes nitrogen (blood meal, bat guano) at planting, knee high and tassel I side dress. Perfect ears every time. I grow slicing cukes on trellises now and they do so much better! No disease or pests. Green beans, I only use Fortex now. Best green bean ever, but protect young shoots from Rabbits (cute but evil). That is really all that I kind of know. Check FB for local gardening groups. Always lots of knowledge for your area. Every area is so much different, its crazy. I have lived in Texas, California and Washington and growing veggies is completely different in each place.

Hi, first time viewer today, This is my first year with a garden. My squash and zucchini have been attacked at the base of the stem by some bugs, what would I do to save the plant and prevent in the future? Would I spray with some of the Cheyenne spray I saw in another video of yours?
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden Ай бұрын
Very sorry to hear about that attack. Just have to make sure it's not the squash Vine bores ! Those are the deadliest in the garden.. You have to check your plants everyday for eggs. It's like a little red. Remove them far away from your garden. These bugs will eat out your plant from inside out.. The most effective way is to manually remove them. The other stuff you could do is the spring neem oil spray on the main stem twice a week.. Cayenne pepper spray would work a bit but it wouldn't stop them.. There's nothing much to stop them. It's just going to slow them down and that's better .. sorry.. is just something we have to fight everyday off. They only last for a month to a month and a half...

That will only work when going on the ground, I grow it vertically that's going to be tuff , by growing vertically you get to see any sign right away from vine border or squash bug attack.

2 questions: #1. Why do you choose to use the fabric ground covering? How long does it last & do you have a video? #2. How far away from your house should your garden be? I am~30 yards away but grew a couple of my tomato plants in containers that I kept near the house and they ALWAYS do better. A month ago I planted a couple tomato saplings close to the house bc didn't expect them to survive they needed rehab/extra attention bc spider mites took over my new starts in garage. They are doing fine now. Trying to decide if I should retransplant them out to the main garden. What are the risks of growing veggies close to the home?
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 17 күн бұрын
The fabric weed barrier protects against weeds. I'll keep the garden a bit cleaner.. It all depends on the variety. I have some for 5 years now You could plant next to your house but I wouldn't do too close. Also, you have to make sure you get good sunlight. don't want too many bugs coming in around close to your house. Plus you have to make sure when you water you're not watering too much that it leaks into your house ... A could of feet away should be good.. just pick a location with good Sunlight...
