When is the right time to spray the back of the zucchini leaves with neem or soap and water and how often can I apply calcium in between fertilizer, Cucumbers just starting , had one short one curled up on the end. What causes that ? thanks
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden Сағат бұрын
So you want to fertilize every two weeks add calcium twice a month. You could add a couple days after fertilizer or you could mix in some with your fertilizer. Just don't put too much.. Also neem oil spray you want to do this in the evening time when the sun cools down spray behind the leaves.. Sometimes this will cause because of poor pollination or sometimes the watering is off or not enough nutrients.. If the weather is hot make sure you water every one to 2 days either in the evening or in the morning time

I'm so sorry to hear that.. Increase your plant fertilizer and stick to water schedule. Make sure your water every 1 to 2 days. Add your fertilizer every 2 weeks and keep repeating.. Prune out about three to four lower leaves. Give it a couple days you're going to see production

I’ll try this next year - I always let two shoots grow and main vine - once each gets a pollinated fruit I top the vine after the fruit - I get 3 big watermelons per plant

Looks great 👍🏻 Hope I get a good harvest. Mine are flowering but no cucumbers yet. Do you also put dry fertilizer every 2 weeks or just water soluble? I have been doing dry monthly.
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 14 сағат бұрын
Thank you .. dry fertilizer... I add every 2 weeks.. cuz it does take a couple days for the fertilizer to break down and the plant absorb it.. Also, I noticed with cucumber plants the female needs more nutrients so the plant has to be really healthy... You could always pinch off some of the lower male flowers. Remove some lower leaves. Increase your fertilizer a bit more. This will bring in some females...

Sorry to hear.. Might be the plant is under stress.. Try to water every 1-2 days .. light water do not over water.. Mine had the yellow spot, brown tendril, completely dark with no light green tint anywhere, had that perfect sound, well into the harvest period, but it was only white/light pink inside. I can’t figure it out
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 14 сағат бұрын
Oh sorry.. you had all the right signs to harvest... So what I realize the yellow spot normally comes because the watermelon is on the ground and it's resting on that side. It's not always guaranteeing. The other thing I noticed when the trellis even turned brown is to leave it about another 3 weeks later cuz I ran into the same problem last year... Very strange but I did got a better harvest... Sorry again I hope you could get more harvest before the seasons ends 🌱🙏🏾

This is very helpful. My first time growing Zucchini(Grey Zucchini from seed, in container. So. Calif. in Zone 10), so I had no reference as to what their process is. I have been getting some pollinators. I went out this morning to clip several as you show here. It makes total sense so it allows its energy to work on the main ones. It was perfect timing as a bee had come just before I finished snipping. :) Thanks for helping us newbies. For other vegetable seeds I'm getting soon, I also just picked up my Scott's 10-10-10. Could you mound soil or compost up that stem and get more root growth? Maybe up-pot it into a larger pot and put the stem deeper? This time of the season we can still just start some new ones if we had to.
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden Күн бұрын
So I never tried that before. The only thing with squash fine boars sometimes they drop their egg right on the soil close to the main stem and they will just find their way in.. You're right. If you have time you could replant and it will grow much faster now.. I actually replanted some last week and they're already a good size now.. I have all the way end of this month before these bugs Stop attacking me... Squash bugs. The other ones will still stick around lol....

I have mine growing on a trellis and I put a watermelon hammock on them to prevent them from breaking off the plant once they get to be a few pounds, the smaller sugar babies only. I keep the bigger ones on the ground. So my sugar babies do not get this yellow spot because they aren’t sitting on the ground. The only way I can tell is from the tendrils and knocking/ flicking gently on the fruit to see if it makes a bit of a muffled hollow sound. The bigger ones on the ground I actually bought special plastic trays with holes to drain water and it keeps the mellons slightly off the ground and prevents them from rolling around. My backyard isn’t really designed to grow fruit and vegetables, I have a pool and around is all stone interlocking and the gardens on the retaining walls are already full of flowers and well established trees. But I have a section at the back where I have space to plant in pots but the ground is stone interlocking so I am worried the melons can roll around or get damaged by the stone, so the plastic trays really help with that. So far everything has been going very well, as my first year growing watermelons I am very happy with the outcome so far. Other than the fact I have already stepped on the vines twice, including once right now. Because like I said my yard isn’t very well designed to grow fruits and vegetables especially ones like watermelons that take up a lot of space. The first time I stepped on one the vine split but it seemed to heal itself and the plant continued to grow and stay healthy. The second time it was too much damage I had to cut it and allow for one of the side chutes to continue as the main vine, now I stepped on another and it split on one side but the damage doesn’t seem to be terrible, I hope it will heal like the last one and continue to grow. I put empty pots around the vines like pylons now so hopefully I won’t step on them again while trying to get to my other fruits and vegetables 😂

@Greentgarden

So typically it will be a sign of too much water or sometimes lack of nutrition.. If you see brown spots in it, check on underneath the leaves , make sure you don't have any bugs .. Increase your fertilizer and keep adding every 2 weeks. Also do not water too much.. Water every 2 to 3 days lightly if it's really hot water once a day lightly
