Just found your channel from searching In garden worm compost. It's funny we watched the same video that sparked the idea from AZ Worm farm. This is my first year gardening in AZ...I'm a new transplant (pun intended 😄) from Zone 5 Michigan. It's been a challenge and learning experience to say the least. Having a brand new yard meant not having existing flowers that would attract pollinators. I just realized that my favorite Asian vegetable to grow on my FOOLPROOF Earthbox garden, bittermelons are not self pollinating unlike my other fave eggplant. They grew then they just died from the heat and flowers just falling off from no bees. Just transferred my worms outside from my indoor Wormfarm 360 box. Hope they make it. Your garden is to die for!!!! I can only envision it in my dreams. Definitely will watch your video library and take heed from your lessons. Thanks for great contents and teaching us new AZ gardeners. 😍👏

Lovely video as always! Thank you for all the useful information! So nice it's finally cooling off even if it is just a little bit. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a question about preparing my garden bed. I have removed some exhausted summer plants and there is a layer of dry leaves and stems on top of the bed. I know some gardeners recommend leaving those to decompose naturally like mulch. Before I add a layer of fresh compost, should I remove those first, add the compost and then put them back on top, or should I just remove them completely? I don't do compost, not yet, so I won't be composting them.
@GrowingInTheGarden

Sure, I don't see a problem leaving them in place. It adds more organic matter. Thanks for watching.

It's my first year gardening in Arizona and I've been totally surprised by my findings! It's a truly unique growing situation and your videos have helped me make sense if it. One super interesting thing I've found is that my plants seem to flourish directly in the ground (mulched of course) as opposed to in my Greenstalk or my raised beds, filled with super high quality potting soil. I just have to protect my in ground plants from all the many many things that want to eat them or sit on them. Have you found this to be true as well?

If you live here in the low desert, it’s a little late to plant them. You can plant a couple and give it a try if you want to. But normally plant by May for the largest vines, etc.

I did the same, I planted them about a week ago, and all of them have come up. Hopefully they’ll produce? Idk, but another stupid heatwave is incoming and Idk how I’ll protect them in these raised garden beds, considering the relation with the shade cloth and the sun, they’re probably gonna suffer, unless I protect them with umbrellas.

Hi could you share how to get transplant out? I started tomatoes, beans and cucs, tried to aclimate them but they hated the heat! and died! so I have not been able to get anything in the garden, also do you start your plants as seed in the garden? or do you transplant? I get sun from all areas, no shade, I tried some shade cloth but did not work, I have lost 2 peach trees and an apple that I had under shade are, they just burned!
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 3 жыл бұрын
I plant tomato transplants in the evening so they have time to settle in overnight and give them shade if they are in full afternoon sun. Beans and cucumbers do best started directly from seed. Here's a video that might be helpful: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbuKnLl_qpa7f2g.html Concentrate on planting trees in the right location (find a spot with afternoon shade if they need it) and deep regular watering for your trees in the future.

So what do you consider is a "deep" drink? 10 min, 30 minutes?

Water long enough so the water penetrates to a depth of three feet. That will be different for each watering system. If the tree has a well around it that may mean filling it up a time or two and letting it seep in. A drip system may need to water for an hour 2-3 times. Bubblers would run for much less time. Hope that helps.

Do you too off your asparagus beds? If you do, do you pull the crowns up so they aren't burried too deep?

I add compost other times of the year. I don't usually unbury the crowns after I cover them with compost. Right now I just let them grow wild.
