Ain't nobody did it like my boy Mikael. The reason he was iconic among the greats like David Vincent, was the actual cadence combined with the ability to spit the words out with clear pronunciation. So many vocalists sound like they are pushing air out while their lips are still closed/rimming their teeth. It makes this kinda odd sound on the ends of the words. You do it a bit here too. I call it the 'forced silent fart pop' sound. Not for the sound you make vocally, but for the feeling it gives off. If that makes sense at all..lol Not throwing shade at you and 90 million other metal vocalists. It's probs a style or something for all I know. Everything else you did was pretty darn good.

Nahh forget all of those. You can have the fundamentals of a fry vocals/growls AND adding the actual secret ingredient which IS curling your tongue slightly upwards partly touching the roof (like saying the letter R). I discovered this myself while binge listening opeth and bloodbath.

based on what he said on a loudwire interview it seems to be fry because he said "its not loud in volume"

Nop, Mikael growls are fry, always, in every opeth record. he never use false chord. His growls are really low (volume) and almost it sounds whispered.

yep, michael's growl is the most basic false chord scream, you can see in his live recordings he is incredibly relaxed, and he isn't doing much with his voice. Just his natural growl tone is great, and what makes him stand out other than the brutality is that you can actually understand what he is saying
